I was flipping pages in the TBM and came upon an ad for what I assume is a new broadhead for Zwickey.(page 57) Is it just me or does it have a look ,like its a 3 blade head?
I thought the same thing
They really need a web page..... :(
The picture, if it is what you are speaking of, shows a broadhead that is VERY barbed. Is that legal in any state ?
ChuckC
can someone post it up? saw this new broadhead mentioned in another post
not a three blade but definetly barbed and therefore illegal in New York.
Here you go. The new Cliff head signed by Jack Zwickey courtesy of Greg Schwehr of the ABCC.

A proper two-edged single blade. But, as Kev noted, barbed and not legal for big game in NY and a few other states . . . for big game.
It's legal in South Carolina. It's the same profile as the trade points my Dad and I used to make 25 years ago.
Not legal in Missouri.
Someone please explain how that head is barbed,I don't see it,any help would be appreciated on what to look for.
Trailing edge is less than 90° to perpendicular to the shaft. That makes it "barbed" by NYS definition.

Hmmmm. Might have to give those a try, since they legalized barbed heads in TN this year.
Stumpkiller,
Interesting pics on what legal and whats not in N.Y By the looks of it would that mean that the 2 blade Rage is also illegal? It would seem to have the same profile. Just curious.
With this longer cutting angle, I would bet that they will fly nice and be very effective. What I always tell newbies that are sharpening impaired about trad broadheads, 'get the zwicky, get them as sharp as the one I sharpened and trust it.' Now I have a new Zwicky to tell folks to get.
not legal in Ma
How heavy are they?
According to the ad ,the glue ons are 135 grains and the screw on type are 165 grain.
Not legal in Oregon, either.
YES, he does need to get a website! Love them heads!
Brad
Don't know why you'd ever want to use it. Just the potential to increase the pain and suffering of an animal trying to remove it if you make a bad shot.
I don't need a harpoon. Maybe it's for fishing.
+1 Mr. Magoo. I don't see the benefits, other than it looks cool. I'll stick with my Eskalites.
These are the only laws I can find on the MDC web site. Some use stone :) some use junk mechanical heads! These look like an old school two blade to me, looks good to me. I'd use them, and probably will.
•A longbow, compound bow or recurve bow of any draw weight; handheld string releasing devices, illuminated sights, scopes and quick point sights are allowed
Can't find a min arrow weight, draw weight, broadhead requirements nothin more? just what I put above.
They look like perfectly fine old school heads. They will perform as well as all the other Zwickey heads. But as stated, they cannot currently be used for big game in some states, Wisconsin included.
A shame.
I will buy a pack anyway just to have an example for my small collection.
Might anybody be intersted in one or two for a collection if I do this? Share the cost a little bit ?
ChuckC
Hey i talked to Jack Zwickey the other day on how to sharpen a 4blade and he said they are gettin a webpage in 6weeks!!
I'll take 1 or 2 or half a pack if it's not a 3-pack. Be glad to split the cost and shipping.
Ron
1longbow, the rage and other mechanical heads are legal as long as the blades fold back when the shaft is withdrawn. IE closed or less than 90* from the shaft. if they lock in the open position they are then barbed and illegal in NY.
Harpooning? No No, see what happens here, and use that above pic as reference, You put an arrow into a deer, the head is sticking out the other side, as the deer runs through cover the barb snags on brush and pulls it free. If it is a fatal hit, you have a greater potential for more blood on the ground, if it is a non fatal hit the arrow is just pulled free and the wound heals up.
Howard Hill stated he never saw one come out the way it went in, I would believe that.
Brad, ya gotta size that pic man. Before the new policy is enforced...
It is a great pic though...
Here's a pic of the Cliff 140gr.
The Zwickey Ad in the new TBM said 135gr. but there packaging says 140gr. There right in between that on my scales.

Oop's double post
Oh, that looks great. I badly need one for my collection.
If I shoot 2 blades I go with zwickey and this looks like another winner, however I don't really care for 2 blades as for most game on this continent I don't need the extra penetration.
if ya like the head but concerned about the "barb" simply grind it off, ya really wont lose enough width or weight to speak of..
I really like the No Mercy 4 blades....great head. Charlie Lamb and I were talking years ago if Zwickey took the width of the Eskimo and the length of the Delta and made a 4 blade ....it would be a GREAT all around head...and dang if they didn't come out with it without any input from us.
This head is unique to say the least.....I'll buy some cause I'm a long time Zwickey fan.
Nice looking head, but it would be illegal in PA either. Given the "no barb" regulations a lot of states have, it makes me somewhat wonder why Zwickey would market it since many of their potential buyers wouldn't purchase it due to their states' regs.
I believe, based upon info just gotten, that they may be a bit pricey too. Hmmm
ChuckC
Nice pictures Ryan! We might have to put you to work! :biglaugh:
Terry I have never shot a 4 blade zwickey because I was concerned about the way the bleeder blades are formed. Do they tend to bend easily?

I have never had a problem with them. But, like all steel the proper amount of force will bend it.
I tried the Eskimos with bleeders years ago and found the bleeders just make them harder to sharpen. :dunno:
Just Ordered 6.... :)
They are illegal in NH last I knew. I know that mech heads with retractable "barbs"/blades are ok.
Who sells the barbed heads?

I don't know about you....but when I remove an arrow from an animal....its already dead. :saywhat:
Illegal in NH? I last read that: fixed blade heads must be between 7/8" and 1.5" I would read barbed as a fish arrow, not a small concave trailing edge. Don't you just love it when someone tries to TELL YOU what the definition WILL BE?
Thats barbed? A fish arrow, now thats barbed. I especially like it when there are 3 Sergeants doing the job of 1 or 2 C.O.'s and they complain about not having enough money.
Alright, now thats out of the way, are they even available yet?

Rage are Mechanical blades and upon them moving in reverse direction the blades will retract to a closed position. If they are fixed blades with that profile then they would be barbed, if im correct.
How wide?
1" 3/16"
Ill keep my no mercy heads.I really dont see what would make this head a big seller. The 3 blade would im sure.

This will take care of it.

I use the outer edge for mine when I sharpen the bleeders.
