Ok ok work has been busy, sorry.
Last night I hunting a creek bottom I haven't touched since last year. As I was walking in I see a couple does in a alfalfa field. So I start sneaking down toward the creek when movement caught my eye, it was a little buck making a scrape. I sit down and watch him till he moves off. The plan was to go sit somewhere near that scrape because other bucks would check it out. As I'm easing my way down I see a bigger buck, a shooter standing on the scrape. Well he saw me to and turn around and trotted off.
I finally make it to the scrapes and see a couple more does on the way. I get set up near the scrapes and sit and wait....

I made a promise to myself when I got into trad last year that I wanted to kill my first deer on the ground with no ground blind. NOTHING AT ALL AGAINST THEM, or tree stands its just how I wanted to do it.
I'm set up with a full view of the alfalfa field but still able to shoot in the creek if needed. I grab some tumble weeds and place them around me and set up a nice natural ground blind, nothing special. Not much after I get that done I see a doe enter the field 200 yards away. Soon after her a little buck comes in the field and chases her to the other side of the property, fun to watch the action start to heat up. I start to lightly rattle just to stir things up, and in the past I've had great luck this last week of October with rattling.
Doe's and buck start to pour out of the picked corn field above the alfalfa, not because of the rattle just because its their routine. I'm watching and the later it gets the bigger the bucks get. They finally start to filter down toward me, when I see one doe way out in front of the others. The way she was going she was ending up behind me, down wind. As I watch all the deer in the alfalfa, around 10-15, I hear a deer eating beside me. I grab my bow and get ready....
Great story Jon! The method in which it is being delivered is a bit like torture but certainly is keeping it exciting!

Sorry I'm not meaning to have such long pauses, I'm at work and things come up.
I look over and its that lead doe! I didn't think there was anyway she wouldn't just head to the creek. She's at 6 yards when I see her, she keeps walking down beside me. She gets broadside at 10 yards, I raise and draw, and she turns away from me. So I let down and get down then she turns broadside again at around 13-15 yards and I raise, pick a spot, draw and before I know it she is running off with my arrow buried to the feathers and blood POURING out. As I said I picked a spot and drew and the arrow was gone. Don't remember anything till she was running in front of me. She had apparently turned away from me again as I released and the arrow went in by her hind leg, but at the angle and penetration I wasn't to worried about the shot. I watch her bed down about 50 yards from me. I sneak out and call my little bro to help me out. I gave her over an hour and decided that was good enough.
As I said before the blood trail was very impressive. My brother couldn't believe how good it was. We followed it with ease and found this

We looked down a creek bank and there she was. It was awesome. The Schafer, Surewood shafts, and Woodsman broadhead did the job! I wish I would've had some day light to take more pics of the blood trail and how I found her. She had to pick the steepest part of the creek to fall into, and at the bottom was a bunch of dead fall. It didn't matter the hunt and wait was worth it. Sorry its not a BIG KS buck story but I hope to have one in the next couple weeks. I've been seeing good ones just need to close some distance.
