A buck I named "Contender" only because he was never the biggest buck I'd get a picture of in this area.
Same area roamed by the buck called "Lucky". Haven't gotten "Lucky's" picture yet this year, but if he's still around, I believe he'll have his hands full with this guy.
Keep in mind, I've never laid eyes on this buck in the 3 yrs. I've gotten these pix and hunted the area...
In 2009 as a 2.5yr. old...

Then last year as a 3.5yr. old...in velvet...

Last year again in October...

Now just last week(month on camera is off by one month) as a tank 4.5yr old!

I'd set this camera last Wed. in the rain, after getting rained out at work. I found some rubs, then a giant rub. I set the cam, then left.
Yesterday morning I hunted the spot(the tree I climbed is actually in the backround of the pic).I have a stand set about 70yds. away, but yesterday used my climber..didn't see a thing.
So I got down and switched cards in the cam, and got home to find those last 3 pix!
Very nice bud, stay on him!!!
Best of luck Curt....just wish me luck on getting into the woods this season!!!

Good luck Curt! He is a dandy!
Real nice to know there's something like that in your hunting grounds. As the Wensels say the trail cam shows "what's on the menu".
Just got psyched by the Lunar forecast thread. How did the daylight pics jibe with the tables for that area?
Wow he looks downrite western. Cool how that brow tine maintained the little flip in his new antlers.
Very nice Curt. Fun to watch them mature. Best of luck with him and I sure wouldn't want to be that deer.
Somebody has been putting on weight!

Good luck Buddy! Mabey you should take Cade with you, he seems to be a great good luck charm :)

Real nice buck, let's see em hanging! Good luck.
Good luck curt, he is a beauty!
Go get him Curt! Nothing like sitting in a stand, when you KNOW that buck has been through there before, and will likely do it again.
Heading in there tommorrow...in what will probably be a about a foot of snow by the morning!
Unbelievable Oct. snowstorm! Should be all over by daybreak and hopefully the deer will be moving like crazy

Good luck. Hope to see a pic with you holding antlers and grinning.RC
Good luck Curt.
Randy
Killed by a guy hanging Christmas lights off his house. Saw him laying in the brush behind his house, went in, got a gun, and killed him.
The guy has never even hunted and had to call a friend to gut it for him!
There is no justice!! :(
Dang, that's bad luck :banghead: , but it might have made him a deer hunter that day

Do you really believe that?
Sorry Curt. Bad break.

Truly! Nothing fair about it!
Just wrong!!
That sucks brother, sorry to hear it, but I know you'll hang in there because that is what us trad guys do !
Darnit anyway! I had just been wondering the other day if you had seen that deer again, or possibly got him.
I can relate to the disappointment you must feel. Theres nothing "sporting" about that, he deserved better.
That just plain stinks!!!
Wow thats just wrong.I bet the guy did not even have a hunting licence. The thing is a true hunter as yourself would have never took advantage of that great deer.No respect....
Sorry bud! You are one of the most deserving hunters I know. I bet there is an even bigger one cruising with your name on it :campfire:
Wow............speechless.

Thats bad Brother.Nothing to do but get after another. Reminds me of the time I called a Turkey from daylight till noon in the edge of a field and a guy walked up and shot him with a rifle.RC
that totally sucks!
Did he have a license?
I hate that bud! I was really hopeing you would get a chance at him. :(
Like Mike said I hope there's another bigger one cruising around that's got your name on him. :archer2:
Hang in there, Atleast you have some fine picks of him. :)
Tracy
Know that feeling Curt...too bad. Hanging Xmas lights eh...nothing like putting the effort in every day hunting hard and coming home tired and hungry only to find out some guy "hunts" no farther than 5 steps from his back door.
Needed help to field dress...a real seasoned hunter.
Unfortunately, there are too many guys who "luck" into deer but that's part of the game I guess.
A Buck like that deserved better.
Sorry to hear that Curt. Cant type how I feel about it.
Sorry to hear he met his demise that way Curt! At least if another bowhunter got him you could be happy for the hunter. Well, you are just gonna have to find another one!
Good Luck,
Bisch
Ouch, I feel for ya Curt, I've hunted a few that met a wrongful end.
I bet if you talk to Glen, he will get your head back on track, he seems to process these type of incidents well even though you know they dont sit well with him, That's admirable.
Not much you can do now other than go look for sign that Lucky is still around.
Tough break Curt, Best wishes and good luck.
(next time bring Christmas lights to hang on your stand)
Charlie
Guru..... keep your chin up bud ! Got a feeling your luck will change for the better. :archer2:
Poop! Sorry to read this.
You know what Deon say's on the NFL show....
C'Mon Man!!!!!!!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
as Homer Simpson would say DOAAAAHHHHH!!!!
I cannot really think of anything to say except - there are many more out there. And that's why we hunt.
Theres always Solana to ease your pain. I too lost 2 candidates this year, 1 to a poacher and one to a Audi, each within a mile of my bedroom. They arent the last bucks walking though. :saywhat:
:(
I can feel your pain. I had a great buck in the 160 + class ,got regular photos of him on the trailcam .He was shot by the neighbour a few lots over with a shotgun.Problem being the season wasn't open and it's does only for shotgun. Let the neighbours know this year there's no freebees, hear a gunshot, call the co's.
That is a tough pill to swallow for sure.
Ive had bucks that I was closing in on to be killed by vehicles and by gun hunters...but I must say, a fella hangin Christmas lights that dont hunt takes the cake.
Your name must be on a different one this late season!!!
Sorry to hear that Guru. I saw a beautiful whitetail on some public ground last weekend that I couldn't close the deal on. The ground is archery only and gun season started Nov. 30th. Anyways I heard early this week a deer was found dead on that public ground with it's head cut off.  I hate poaching but hate it even more when they do it just for the rack.
Yeah that's tough to swallow. Just isn't fair..... My neighbor has a huge whitetail (for this area at least) hanging in his living room. When I asked him the story he proudly told me he shot him off the porch one sunday morning with his rifle.
He said " yeah I was just sippin coffee and reading the paper when I see this brute coming across the pasture. I shot him in my bath robe! Can you believe it! " He just laughed and slapped his knee. Good lesson in SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T GET IT.
Good luck and lets hope LUCKY is more lucky. :)
Bad break brother. Keep your chin up,his genes are in the area.
Man, real bummer. Stuff happens. Regarding those who questioned if the guy had a hunting license--here in WV, land owners do not need a license to hunt their own property nor do resident children of the land owner. The guy may have done nothing illegal--but it sure puts a hard working bow hunter in a funk.
ugh what a bummer...thats called deer murder.
That stinks Bro. A lot of big bucks here in Jersey feel safe around houses.
