I want to share something that really works for me while using my back quivers.
Just click on the picture to view the video.

I hope this might help someone else who is back quiver challenged as I was.
God bless,Mudd
OK, I give up. We've played Stump the Dummy and I'm stumped. What am I looking at?

Click on the picture, I stared at it for a while before I realized it's a link to a video
The simple leather strap that's attached to the middle of the quiver strap that allows me to pull the quiver back up to the point that the arrows are easily retrieved.
I did this because I couldn't do the quiver bump correctly.
God bless,Mudd
click on the pic, its a video.
Mudd, great job. Maybe I will give the back quiver another shot.
God Bless,
Nathan
Told ya' I was a PC Dummy. Nice video my friend. My American Leathers back quiver works just fine, but I can see how this would be a great addition for some.
Thanks for taking the time to make this one.
Danny
I was visiting with Nate Steen not long ago and he encouraged me to make this video and share it since not everyone can make the quiver bump work for them.
It requires so little extra motion that it's about the same amount as the quiver bump.
God bless,Mudd
Enhances the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" and a video is worth a bundle of pictures. Good video!
THANKS for the video Mudd  I'll give it a try :archer:
American Leathers had a series of pictures with James showing how their style can be used. In an old publication "The Complete Book of Archery" by Louis Hochman, there are two chapters about Howard Hill and he talks about and illustrates how he uses the back quiver. I can see the idea and why it works for a quiver that is a different style, and more upright. Good idea
I would like to thank Bud B for making this quiver for me.
Without it I might have come up with the idea eventually but having that ring in there, it just seemed like the logical thing to do.
Thanks for the kind comments.
God bless,Mudd
Glad it's working for you Mudd.
It work for my rootbeer belly!!! :)
Good idea Mudd. I am just not flexible enough to be able to reach back there and pull an arrow out of the quiver. So I always have to pull on the strap to hoist the quiver up and over my shoulder a bit. This would make for far less acrobatics....
(nice arrows)
Thanks for Sharing...been thinking about a back quiver....looks like I may incorporate your suggestion due to torn left rotator cuff. Thanks again..
When I am wearing my Filson double camo, I have been using a 22 inch right hand quiver to accommodate the larger coat, which of course forced me to use a right hand bow. Tried it with my 20 inch Miller and the big coat and it works. thanks for the tip.
Cool trick, Mudd have you been working out? I see you unleashed the Pythons for the video...LOL
And Im impressed that you shoot with a watch on I cant my string will find it every time I try it.
Great idea Mudd. That bow is really quiet. Ken
Great Idea Roy! :archer:
Nice thanks my 8yr old son has been struggling with this. Should do the trick. Only suggestion is next time turn and put an arrow in the dog in background of video would make for some good footage.
Captain bite your tongue.
That dog is "Trouble with the Truth" aka Liar. He is 3 times World Champion, 4 times Missouri State Champion, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota State Champion on both Squirrel and Coon.
He's two wins away from being Super Grand on the bench.
But better than all that, he's my buddy and they just don't come any more faithful.
God bless,Mudd
My bad just trying to spice up the video. All joking aside great tip.
Great idea Mudd!
Not to spoil your fun, but have you tried it with broadheads yet, Mudd? I found that with a back quiver that close to vertical, my broadheads wanted to grab on the way out. I kept fiddling with the Bear quiver until I found that having it angled across my back, more like Nate Steen does in the pictures posted in another thread allowed me to draw the arrows out more to the side. This both eliminated the drag but also made the quiver bump easier.
I ask because drawing field points over the top of the shoulder like you are was no problem. Part of the problem for me was I have a 28" draw but relatively short arms and less flexibility than I did 40 years ago or so. So dragging my rather longish arrows with broadheads attached over the top didn't work so well.
I'd get them most of the way out, then have to start pulling them down and the broadheads would drag on the back of the quiver. At worst, they kind of hung up. At best, they were kind of noisy. I noticed in your video that you kind of do the same thing with your field points, so I wondered if you would have the same issue.
The one I finally built lays so that the arrows are closer to the point of my shoulder than to my head. Then a slight bump puts the nock in my hand. I let go of the quiver and it drops down a bit, which helps with drawing the arrow out.
I hope your way keeps working for you, but thought you might want to try things out before you head to the woods.
Russ
Mudd great idea, but does it work without the muscle shirt underneath?
:biglaugh:
Thanks for sharing Mudd. Im going to give that a try.
Nice job there Mudd :)
I say you call it the "Mudd Flap" :campfire:
COOL Mudd, Glad you found something that is working for you and you got to keep the backquiver. I will give you 5 dollars for that bow too!!!!
good idea
Mudd thats a great idea. Maybe I don't have to give up on my back quiver now.
Thanks
John
Now,Is that Cool! Way I say!LOL. One of the other fellas had it right, theres alot of ideas shaking around in that head of yours.Ive got to try this!Thank you my friend for taking the time to show us this.
30 Coupe thought I'd have trouble while using broadheads so I tried it.
Here are the results.
Keep in mind that I've only been using this variation a few days.

"Mudd Flap"
Great tip.
Mine has a strap that stretches from the O ring back around my right side and attaches to the bottom of the quiver, but I still "chase my tail" sometimes.
By golly, it looks like that will work for you, Mudd! My arms are about one inch too short to bring them over the top like that. I have to start pulling down on the nock before it clears the quiver when I have it that upright. We each have our own set of challenges. Glad you were able to find a way around yours. I solved mine in a different way, but we both got the result we wanted.
Great timing on this post, Mudd. I'm about to start making a back quiver for my 7 yr old to go with his Maddog Pup, both for Christmas. This little tip will help him out for sure.
Rusty
Thanks mudd,I think i'll retry the backquiver.Must be a honest cur.
Thanks mudd,I think i'll retry the backquiver.Must be a honest cur.
sorry bout the double post
Thanks for sharing.
Mudd your back quiver idea looks simple and efficient . Good idea for us who are short armed and motion impaired . " Trouble With The Truth " I believe that name pops up twice in my curs pedigree !!! Thanks on both counts .
Great idea
" Trouble With The Truth " I believe that name pops up twice in my curs pedigree !!! Thanks on both counts . -Fav52
You're welcome on both counts and I'll tell Liar he did good as I've heard a thing or two about your dog doing well.
I am loving my back quiver like never before.
I own quite a few of them as I kept getting different ones in my attempt to find one that would work for me.
This little strap has made it so all of them work for me now.
I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
Maybe it was because I didn't have one that has a ring in the middle of the strap until Bud B made one for me. (Thank you Bud!)
I hope that those who've had a problem will find it useful thereby their making back quivers user friendly and not just a romantic thought.
God bless,Mudd
That's cool. I have one quiver that no matter what I've attempted to change, diddle with, or whatever it's impossible to comfortably reach the arrows. I've been just using it to carry extra arrows back and forth in. Will try this and let ya know. Ralph.
Yep, that helped quite a bit. Thanks!
Great idea Roy!
Martin
Gee whiz Mudd, you are cottin' pickin' genius.
Now I'm gonna have to use that back quiver hanging on the wall for something other than storing arrows.
Thanks a bunch.
I don't think I come anywhere near the genius level Pepper.
But I was totally committed to making a back quiver work for me and now they do.
Thanks for the kind words though.
God bless,Mudd
Simple but great idea,thanks.
That is soooo cool Mudd! Thanks!
Copyright and patent it Mudd
"The Mudd Flap"
clever............ NomadArcher nailed it.
"Necessity is the mother of invention"
Great engineering Mudd!! :notworthy: :archer:
Buddy, it is great to see you beat a common struggle with such a simple and effective fix. This will benefit many people in the future.
If you've put a "Mudd Flap" on your back quiver please share a picture and your experience with it.
Thank you!
Your feed back may help someone else.
God bless,Mudd
Now that is something I'm going to try. I'm definitely one of the back quiver challenged. Great idea! Mudd, thanks for sharing.
Neccessity is the mother of invention, eh buddy? Did you apply for the patent yet? :readit: ;)
That's a great idea Mudd! I've never used a back quiver for hunting do to wondering about arrow removal, but you have just solved a major issue for many people!

Great idea Mudd! They say "A thinkin man never grows old"! I think you'll outlive us all. Your idea will help a lot of folks, including me. Send some of your warm weather up here to Idaho!
Take care, Bob
Thanks Roy, appreciate the tip! :coffee:
Mudd
You are wise beyond your years or sharp between your ears or something like that.
Now I gotta get the backquiver out and hitch up a strap to it.
Thanks
John
I really hope that those who try this for themselves will report back.
Does it work for you?
Inquiring minds want to know...lol
God bless,Mudd
good idea...at least two of my back quivers will get the straps installed...thanks
