Misssed a 11 yard chip shot this evening on a nice little 8 ponit buck , shot over his back . Ive shot alot of deer big and small at all diffrent yardage but sometime the chip shots the one that gets us . Just woundering how many of yall have missed the chip shot .
From a ground blind 2 years ago...7 yards on a 140+ 8 point...was lookin at the deer not the spot.
Miss a chip shot last year, I believe the over confidence didn't allow me to pick a spot. It happens to everyone sooner or later. Clean miss is easier to forget than a poor shot.
Even Ty Cobb and Mickey Mantle struck out once in a while. It happens ....makes you think there are NO chip shots with trad.
Why I keep saying " this is hard to do, no matter how many you have killed or how long you've hunted" ....of course I've missed "chip" shots..2,4, 10 yards....

makes me repeat myself and stutter when I miss
I know the pain. Happened to me Friday.
3x last year. 2x from ground blind and 1 from tree stand. 8, 8, and 12 yards.
And yes, the clean misses ARE easier on the conscience.
Been there done that, more times than I care to remember
opening day last year I missed a doe from a hang on stand. Shot right over her back, 5 YARDS! 10 minutes before that I took a practice shot at a leaf on the ground at 15 yards and center punched it.
Oh yea. Been there
I hate to admitt it but yea I've been guilty of seeing rack instead of picking a spot, rally ruined my day.
I don't guess you would call it a "chip" shot, but I sent one over the back of a nice tall 6 pointer yesterday morning at 24 yards. I could already taste his back straps too! I thought he was mine for sure! :banghead:
I guess it just wasn't his time to go. :dunno:
Anybody who hasn't missed a chip shot hasn't been hunting very long. Traditional archery is somewhat like golf in that it is a great lesson in humility. But when all the stars align and everything comes together, it is a great feeling. The easy misses just confirm our humanity.
Missed at 8/9 yards 3 times. All a couple inches over the back
Im in this club lol! missed a big doe a few years ago at a whole 10yds.
miss the same deer twic yesterday. about 10 to 12 yards both times
My most memorable was a 380 class bull elk at 8 yards :banghead:
!["" "[dntthnk]"]("graemlins/dntthnk.gif")
And yes it still stings. If yea shoot at enough critters it's bound to happen.
I missed a 12 yard shot at a little doe a few weeks ago. My shot went right under the deer's chest. TRW
5 point bull elk at 10 yards. Still have nightmares about that one :)
Yep, did that last year (no shot opportunities so far this year). Just imagine sitting in your stand and thinking to yourself "Man, I hope a buck stops in that spot right there." Well, he did, and I shot right underneath him. 10 yards away :knothead:
After I calmed down (and he left), I picked a leaf out on the ground where he was standing and drilled it.
I chalked that one up to a classic case of buck feaver.
Im feeling better already :bigsmyl: , my miss was like another member said "I was already tasting the backstraps" and thinking about getting him out of the woods . Thats ok though I needed to be humbled before the big boy comes my way .
Too many to count, so let's keep it to THIS season. 14 yard over the back of a 6pt, and 19 yard, 3" in front of chest of 8pt.
Last season I shot at the pump station and hit the base of the skull from less than ten yards. One of the worst shots in the history of mankind but lethal. I was never so disgusted after killing a deer.
Can I join the club???
Missed a 13 yard Broadside shot at a 4 pointer Saturday night...
Clean miss...
I take the fith. :banghead:
Yep, 8 yds over the back
I think Ill edit it missing the chip shop CLUB :bigsmyl:
Nope not me uuhh uh never happened
I'm in missed a 8 yard shot over the does back this year.
Biggest 8 point I have seen on my property in several years at 6 yards! 2 does at 12 yards from the same tree same trail. All of those this season. :(
