Title: Wash out or just dry and let it be?
Post by: xtrema312 on October 21, 2011, 11:32:00 PM
So what is the best thing to do for a gut shot?  Do you just clean it out and dry it off or wash it all down?  I wash them out.

What about a small stomach perforation on a quartering shot?  I am on the fence for this one if it is minor and mostly in the chest cavity and doesn't get on the back quarters.

I have always heard to keep things as dry as possible because water breads bacteria.

Wash it out and wipe it dry.

The contents of the gut are not what you want on your meat.

Yea... I second that.... last season I shot a doe that was quartering away.... well just as I released.. guess what happened... Yep she turned into it....I hit her just past the shoulder... clipped a lung and right into the gut ....

She dropped fast so It was a quick recovery.... I just dressed her and got her back for quartering... I cut away anything that was near the gut and didnt have a worry.
