Whats your thoughts on plaid wool hunting coats.. I just ordered one. I have always loved wool for all its benefits. Any pics with plaid coat on hunting ??? Thanks
I hate straight Red and Black. Its just a personal thing.
I have a red black and green one that I love. I like all the other color patterns as well.
If I remember I will post a picture.
I have a red/black plaid Filson Cruiser coat -- expensive, but worth it. I am sure Charlie will forgive me for the red/black.
It is warm and darn near wind proof. It has a double thick back and front pockets that are very big and useful. Since deer see red as gray, it is pretty good cold weather camo. And wool is always quiet.
I love Filson wool as it's 100% wool. I had the Woolrich coat which is an 80/20 wool/nylon blend. That stuff would make a rock itch.
Love the pattern, hate Woolrich's material.
I am a plaid guy. That has been the majority of what I have been wearing this season. Lots of close encounters, and that is from the ground. Heres my lineup.....

Mines a brown plaid Woolrich doesn't make me itch a bit.

My very much missed good friend and bowhunting mentor wore green & black plaid.

Here is an olive plaid Pendleton that will conceal you with the best of them before the leaves fall......

This stuff is soooo cool. I got a Woolrich camo pants and jacket ...used it for years now..but I can't wait for my green and black plaid wool jacket!!!
Nothing wrong with plaid ...

Have a big bunch of wool much plaid included. My sweaters AND coats must not be too thick as to bother my release in any way including the aftershot.

And it likely looks about like this to Mr.Buck.

Better than most "busy" modern camo that just looks like a dark human from 50 yards away.
I like plaid as well

When I get bored I grayscale color images to see what the patterns may look like to a deer (though I am told they can see colors into the blue & UV register a bit so we likely can't judge truly this way). Plaids do very well in cover.

Love those plaids!
I got the woolrich red and black and works well in gun season. I've been wearing solids, olive, green and dark brown mixed and haven't had any deer see me. Walked up on a doe Wed. and got within 15 yards from where she was bedded before she spotted me. Been wearing cheap Dickey brown work pants and they have been great hunting pants. Gray is also a good solid color that blends well in the woods.
I love the green and black plaid. Here's a couple...

I spent a bunch of cash on Kuiu, and it is fantastic, but I am still most likely to be seen wearing green and black or grey wool. Love the stuff.

not quite green and black but i love those plaids shirtjaks too !! woolrich is the best
I like my red / black plaid Woolwich wool shirt and coats. I guess I like them because they are WARM, and they are a connection to my past, as the males in my family and State all wore them when I was growing up. My plaid coat and blue jeans are just fine, although I do have warm and cold weather camo face masks, as I hate face paint.
And wearing my plaid coat, if after hunting I end up crossing a road, or am spotted getting in my truck, or stopping at a store, I blend in and don't look like a Rambo wanna-be. Blue jeans and plaid, pretty non-threatening to any anti-hunting, cat loving, old ladys I might see, or that might see me. I like to get along without drawing attention to myself. Life is just too short.
Growing up in the 50's and 60's in the North East it was Woolrich in the old red with black kind of lines in it. I gave my last one which was likely 40+ years old or even older to a needy family several years ago. I loved that coat as it was my Great Uncles coat but the husband in the family needed it more than I did..
The old Woolrich stuff was 100% wool and very tightly woven. Those jackets dry, Had a huge collar you could put up, weighed a ton, but by God, they were warm even soaked...
I absolutely love a fine, plaid, wool coat. This is my latest acquisition.

Some nice wool fellars. I like the greens and browns!
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/2crazyboys_photos/DSCN2474.jpg)Heres my new Filson Yukon. It really disappears outside in low light conditions and is lightweight but as with all Filson a super tight weave thats windproof without being noisy.
I was wondering where you purchased your coat at keefer I really like it, I have a shirt from asbell but need something a little heavier
Oooh nice jacket Izzy.
Brad,
It's a Woolrich Jacket called Olive Buffalo on the inside label..I got it for around $70.00 with some sort of rebate from a Trading post Co. I'll p.m. you the co. imfo .cause I'm not certain I can post a co. here that has nothing to do with archery...It has a quilted liner in it and this will be the first year I can wear it...That company just by chance had this one and it was my size and I had some sort of bonus rebate offer that anything that came to $100.00 I would get an extra 30%off...That jacket was like $140.00 and change marked down to $99.00 so I bought a pack of $1.50 sock warmers and that made the $100.00 over mark so I got the 30% off...I was very Happy shopper that day and told my wife to get it for me for Christmas last year! She went and filled out the order and a few days later it came in a box and I was home as the U.P.S. truck delivered it and I opened the box tried it on to make sure Santa brought the right size and put it back in the box so my wife wouldn't know...The color was exactly what I was looking for...It looked very Traditional under the Christmas tree... :archer:
