Well this is my first year hunting with traditional gear, and it has been kinda a long road. I started shooting traditional archery early this year and with the help of several TG'ers and my loving wife I have stuck with it through times when it would have been much easier to just go back to what would have been easier ( my wheel bow).
My first week of hunting was filled with disappointment, lots of deer out of range and a miss at about 10 yards!! Didn't pick a spot.... heck I'm not sure if I picked and animal!!!
Week 2 rolled around with warm weather and slow deer movement :( . Wednesday brought cooler weather and good wind for my favorite stand. At about 6:00 I noticed a nice mature doe working her way right up the trail that would put her at about 15 yards in front of me. She fed her way up the trail, as if nothing was out of the ordinary. This time I walked myself through the process of taking a shot, just as I have done many time in the past on 3D targets.
She was walking very slow and feeding at the same time when I drew my bow, PICKED A SPOT and sent the arrow on its way. My arrow entered a touch high, but due to the fact that she was so close, I got the top of one lung and the center of the other just before stopping in her opposite shoulder. She made it about 75 yards and expired.
Now I know that its only a doe, but this is a major accomplishment for me. Thanks to all who have helped me in my adventure, and here is a pic to end the story. It was well after dark, by the time I got her out of the woods, so I had to wait till this morning to take pics,

Congrats!!! That is a trophy to be proud of.
Just a doe... Not any doe, one taken with trad gear, your first deer with trad gear, I wish I could say the same! Congrats, this is great!
You'll never forget your first one. Thats a good looking mature whitetail doe. Some of those old does are as big a trophy as any B&C buck. I guarantee that doe will be better eating too.
Way to go Adam, congrats. :clapper: :clapper:

Congrats! The quality of the hunt defines the trophy for me not the size or lack of a rack. Job well done  .

Way to hang tough, good work.
Never "only a doe" though. These are some of the finest animals on the planet. You'll not taste the difference in the back straps.
   :notworthy:
Nice !!!!
No such thing as "just a doe"!

Simply Awesome. It's never "Only a Doe" with trad gear. You made a great shot on her and that is the hurdle we all face on any shot. Congrats!
Great shot and trophy
Adam, Congrats on your first Trad deer. She is a beauty, great shooting.
QuoteNow I know that its only a doe,
Ive shot a bunch of deer in the last 20 + years..... Most were doe's.... I still get sooooo excited when I shoot one. Plus, I think the best tasting venison comes from 2.5year old deer.
If anyone tells you its just a doe tell them to keep it moving....
Congrats to ya
Noooo. Its more then just a doe.... Its a way of life... THE PRIDE OF DOING SOMETHING THE HARD WAY.
Pity thoses that have not felt this !!! NICE JOB !!! ..Jeff
Hey, "ONLY" a doe is for the guys using wheels and triggers. Any deer taken fairly with a stick bow is a trophy. Nice deer and welcome to the gang!
Congrats on your first trad success.
It appears to have been a healthy doe with both eyes, ears, and a keen smeller and as such a very worthy opponent.
I wouldn't sell her short for her gender.
She also saved you a bunch of money because I'm convinced if there had been a rack up there, most likely you couldn't have resisted getting it mounted. lol
Congratulations!
God bless,Mudd
"Just a doe" - strike that thought! Great job getting one! Congratulations!
way to go!
congrats :)
Great job Adam!
In my opinion, any mature doe is just as tough to get in on as any mature buck, there are just more of em to try in most places.

"It's only a doe."...Not to me brother. I'd shoot a knothead over young buck anyday. Well done hunter!
No such thing as "only a doe"! Those does are very savvy animals! Every deer taken with traditional equipment is truly a trophy, and I think you're hooked on the most exciting sport. Congratulations on a fine animal!
