Greetings All,
Was kicking around the idea of building up some carbons to play with. In my hunting set up now, I am shooting a 80-84 spine hexshaft and getting them to come in at 640+- at 30 1/2 bop. This is with a 160 grn broadhead up front.
What carbons could I get that would have the inserts and such to make a comparable arrow? These arrows are just in the thinkin process...Don't know if I really want to part with my woodies.
Thanks in advance.
Happy hunting,
Jason
for 50-54# I am shooting Beman 400 MFX Classics with 100 grain brass insert and Centaur Big Game Head. It weighs 634 grains.(29" long).
Arrow Dynamic Trads
The CE Heritage 350's would get you there with a 100 grain insert.

I believe that the CE Heritage 350's (with a 100 grain insert) would get you the closest. May take you a little bit to tune though. I would suspect the same would go for the Arrow Dynamics. They may be underspined with that much weight up front.
Lots of good carbon arrows out there. I really like how I can get a light carbon arrow shaft with a stiff spine and point load it for a high FOC, heavier arrow. I'd recommend playing around with Stu Miller's dynamic spine calculator. Excellent resource for just this application!
I have a 30 inch BOP Arrow Dynamics that I haven't even fletched....it weighs 565 right now with a 185 grain head...again, with no fletching...which will add 25 to 30 grains.
So...the arrow as is plus the fleching and a 225 grain head would put you at....
565+25+35 = 625
Let me know if you want to try it....and I'll send it to ya....no need to send it back...I don't shoot that length.
I shoot AD hammerheads w/ 100 gr brass insert +260 gr bh =765gr. My bow 55@28"

Terry, you gotta take the feathers off the wing before you glue them on the shaft.
3 of my 5" feathers weigh 10.5 grains.
Easton Axis ST's........690 grs and 25% FOC

My 5.5 shields weigh 12 grains....but I also accounted for the glue to mount them....and I add a glue ramp to the front of each of the feathers...and a glue ball on the rear....so, I'm not that far off with my total weight on fletching and installation.

i shoot thoes with 100g brass insert, 75g adapter, and the 130g magnus 1..... i shoot 4 4" fletching without any wraps on the shaft. that comes to 700g
oh my arrows are 30.75"
carbon express 150 cut to 29" = 300gr on tip = 630gr
Bow Toelke lynx 53lbs /28, I pull close to 28
very nice point on at 40 yards.

I'm shooting a CX Rebel 45/60 with the the standard alum insert, 100g steel BH adapter, 200g VPA 3 blade. 640 g grains total.
Eric
Out of my set ups listed below, I shoot a CX 350 with a 100 brass insert and a 260 tip giving me an arrow weight of 750 gr.
Hi Terry,
I'll double check my draw and if this works, I may take you up on your offer on that Arrow dynamics shaft.
Thanks in advance.
Happy hunting,
Jason
Rigs....got your email....
"Is there a way to get the weight up on these? I got 518grns without fletching and a 145 grain head. I'm hoping to build an arrow at 620grns with at least a 160 grn head up front."
Remember my post earlier...your fletching will raise the weight by 25 grains or so(like also stated before accounting for the glue)
Not you are at 543....
Now up your head weight from the 145 to 225 and you are at 623.
You can get to 225 in many ways...42 grain aluminum adapter and a 175 grain head will get you close...Or, a 150 grain head and 75 grain steel adapter...or, just a straight 225 grain screw on that doesn't need an adapter....
