Title: Abowyer 'Whitetail' Broadheads ????
Post by: Terry Green on October 20, 2011, 10:38:00 AM
Does anyone know of a Sponsor that carries Abowyer Heads???  Not sure if Abowyer sold through Sponsor's or not, but would like to find some discontinued Whitetails.

Thanks,

T

I'm not 100% sure but have only seen them on the Abowyer and A+H sites.

A&H archery carries Abowyers Terry but they are out pf the whitetails. They have another model that is only 5 Grains lighter. A&H has some of the ones that are discontinued. If I run across any I will grab them up and get ahold of you and send them your way.

You guys...Abowyer   IS A&H!  Larry Hannify runs both business'.  For about a month I have been asking them to make another batch of Whitetails, but they historically were a low seller for them.

I sent an email to A&H inquiring about the whitetail.  They said there is a "chance" they will bring the whitetail back.  Sounded like it may look a little different than the previous model.

Why not make this the campaign thread. I'll speak for 6. I know this has been attempted by vendors of other products in the past with less than positive results but I personally would pay upfront. In the meantime its sasquatch for my woodies.

I got rid of my left bevels but would be in for 9 if they came out with a double bevel and ground the edge to the tip without the funky tanto tip they had............

Post by: stringstretcher on October 21, 2011, 05:01:00 PM
Well Mr Terry, I did just that.  I emailed them asking what kind of an order it would take to get a bunch made for for the Tradgang members that are wanting them, and also told them that I would share any and all info about this on here.  I sent an email to both A&H and Abowyer, so will see what they say.

The step was made.

I'll take 6 right bevel...

I'd prefer them without the tanto but a file will remedy a tanto tip quickly..

I'd be in for a dozen of them.  Right bevel.

Based on what happened to another vendor, I'd advise Abowyer to collect 100% up front before accepting the orders. No sense sitting on excess inventory which was never accepted.

Great man and great broadheads!

OK....since this is rolling....like I said...I'll take 6 RW....

BUT...BUT ....BUT!!!

If they can do like Pat B said above...I'll take 12 NON-Tanto.

And Yes....money should be collected FIRST!!!

It's about a 5 or 10 minute deal with a file to put a point on any of the "tantoed" heads.. I use a lot of Abowyer Wapitis and Javelinas.. I take the Tanto off and put a point on all of them..BTW, I think Abowyer uses the best steel and tempers it for a lasting edge better than anyone in the business.

I guess the tanto tip is a matter of preference. I like them the way they are. But then again I'm easy to get along with LOL

Just ask my wife.....   :dunno:

Somebody needs to talk to Larry and see what he needs for an order to be worth doing. Take names and quantities desired.
Title: Re: Abowyer 'Whitetail' Broadheads ????
Post by: stringstretcher on October 23, 2011, 07:04:00 AM
I have sent him and email Kevin, asking what it would take for him to run a batch.  Then we have to decide if we can get enough to do that size order.  It has to be up to him on what the amount would be to make it worth his while.  And if this happens, it will be money up front, or no order. If Larry agrees, the money will be sent to him, not a third party.  That way he gets the money before making the heads.

KennyB Go check out Abowyers website in the sponsor list.

I seen where some one said they would like these in a double bevel. Since Abowyer is the single bevel expert I really don't see that happening.

If you ever try a single bevel you will be hooked

I asked them to double bevel some for me...and they could have....but that would narrow the head quite a bit...and the thickness is the main reason I liked the head, that and the thickeness/tuffness....NOT for the single bevel.....I've tried them but certainly not 'hooked'.

Nah...I'm hooked, and have been hooked for decades...on 4 Blades 1st, 3 Blades 2nd, and WIDE Big Chop 2 blades 3rd....I could care less about the number of bevels.

I do like the angle and depth of bevel on the Abowyers....VERY substantial for holding a durable edge!!!

Hey Everyone,
Due to the interest in whitetail heads we have decided to make another batch for those who are interested. We will be taking orders until November 11th to see what quantities we need to produce. You all can either call or send us an email to place your order. We can send you paypal requests but will not be opening up the paypal option like our standard heads. As usual we will be excepting visa and checks. Be sure to let anyone who is interested know because this could be the last chance for the whitetails.

I don't understand this.  After all the contacting and info put out by the members of this site to the manufacturer to get these heads made, why would anyone come on the exact thread and offer something that has been ask for and post something for sale????  It was ask over a week ago if anyone had any.  Now that the manufacturer is willing to make them, all of a sudden they show up for sale...unbelievable.

This thread has been up since Oct 20, and you have been here 5 days of that since.  Now you post on a thread that has no place to be selling items to start with, but was intended to give the manufacturer the chance to gain from those who whated his heads produced again.  Yeah, I find it unbelivable that you would do this not only to the manufacturer right under his nose, but not offer your heads when the thread was started and you were here.  So yeah, let the mods handle it.

I looked at these heads on the Abowyer site and it looks like the whitetail has a curved edge--what are you guys that have used them using to sharpen them with? and do you find it pretty easy to get a good edge on the curved single bevels? I've never tried to sharpen a curved single bevel before and was just wondering what ya'lls experience has been with them.
thanks, Rick

The paper wheel or KME that Abowyer sells make them WICKED sharp.

Rick

I use a fine tooth Grobet file....and they are nasty sharp...not a lot of pressure either...just light strokes on the bevel side....and knock the bur off the back.

Its really easy when you have a factory bevel as good as Abowyers.

Rick These abowyers come nasty sharp out of the pack.

I think I'll try and find one of the files like Terry uses to touch mine up when needed. Where can I get one Terry?
