Title: Arrow spine vs Gr/inch
Post by: Ronaldlee on October 18, 2011, 10:08:00 PM
How much, if any, does the weight per inch have to do with the spine? I am getting ready to order some shafts for my new bow and I weighed my existing shafts at 11 gr/inch. At the 30" length they are way stiff, but the spine charts recommended shaft weighs in about the same. I'm thinking that the construction of the shaft is the factor, but just thought I'd ask. Thanks, Ron

Shafts can weigh 6 GPI or 12 and still be the same spine or stiffness.Arrow charts seldom work very well at all.

If you give all your bow specs here, weight, your draw length etc and what type shaft material you want to use and point weight etc and I bet someone here could steer you fairly close. You still need to do some bare shaft tuning to get it there.

Meanwhile,go to bowmaker.net and read the tuning information. It will get you where you want to go,once you get your shafts.Good luck.

I have a 64" Bama long bow rated at 55# @ 28". I like carbon shafts and have been looking at the CE Heritage and Pile Drivers also the Trad Only. My pull is around 28.5" Would like to set it up for Elk hunting if I ever draw draw a tag. Any opinions on spine, inserts, tips or if I should get a test kit would be appreciated.

Ronaldlee, best info I can give you is to go to Stu Miller archery and down load his Dynamic Spine Calculator. Make sure you plug in proper info in all the boxes and it will get you real close and gives you a bunch of other options also.      :archer:
