Title: Carbon Express Heritage
Post by: BigMedicine on January 14, 2007, 12:51:00 AM
With the problems in getting GoldTip Trad shafts, I've been looking into other wood-grain carbon arrows, and like the looks of the Carbon Express Heritage shafts.  Anyone shoot these?  If so, do you or whould you shoot 250's or 350's at 54#?  Thanks.

Hi, I shoot 350s from my 78# Black Widow longbow. They work really well for me. I suppose the 250s might be good for your set-up. Cheers, Ben

I use the 350's, but they are about full length if not full length with 145 grains out of a #57 recurve and #56 R/D longbow, works good for me. I am betting the 250's would be hard to beat. I only have one of those darn arrows, the other one is in the ground somewhere thanks to a rookie.

I'm going to give the 250's a try one of these days, based on how well the 29" CX Terminator Hunter 4560's I'm curently shooting work. All my bows are 47-52lbs@my 28" draw...

My guess is the 250s would work well for you.  I use 350s out of my 72# Hummingbird.  With 3gr/in tubes and 175gr tips I have a finished arrow of 650.
I was thinking of trying 250s with a 125 tip and 5gr/in but have over 2 dozen 350s right now.

Well, I hate to be different, but I am shooting the 150's out of bows up to 56 lbs.  29" 145 grain tip.  I do usually seem to use a slightly weaker spine than most though.  I think it's because I have such a smooth release.  :D

3 Rivers has a test pack that contains all three sizes, that way you could see which one you need before you drop a hundred bucks on a dozen.

Zach,

How long of an arrow are you shooting, and what is your draw?  That will go a long way in determining what you should shoot. I'm currently shooting 250's, but the arrow length is 30.5", and I have 270 grains up front. My draw length is 29", and bow weight is 55lbs.

250's for a shorter shaft 28-29, 350 for a long shaft 30-31. It will also depend on the tip weight you plan on.

Crash, love the Torges quote .

54# @ 28", I'm thinking of cutting 30" arrows, and shooting Grizzly heads- 160 grain, for a bit more weight up front with a big fixed blade.

With 160 plus stock insert the 250 should work well at that length.

Crash has got it right above....... I have played with all three CE arrows, 150,250,and 350's. I would suspect that you could get the best results with a 150 or 250, just depends on what length arrow you shoot and what weight you prefer up front. If you are going to go with an arrow 29" or longer and shoot over 175 grains up front go with a 250. If you shoot a 29" or less arrow with 125 tip the 150 will work good. With a 54 # bow weight I would go with a 250 and some weight up front, ( 150 tip with a 50 or 100 gr gold tip brass internal weight screwed to std aluminum adaptor ),then cut arrow to length for correct spine. These arrows fly great with lots of weight up front. They are tough as nails too !!! As you bareshaft tune you can glue all this up full length and start cutting 1/2" off the nock end at a time till it bareshafts almost straight for you. I like to be ever so slightly weak cause you will be adding about 30 grains of glue and feathers to the nock end after you are thru.

I know the corporate recommendations are usually bogus, but the CX Heritage shafts were designed specifically with traditonal bows in mind. That being said, their recommended setups fit almost dead on.

Carbon express recommends 150 Heritage shafts for bow weights as follows: 25-35# bows with arrow lengths up to 31", 36-39# bows with arrow lengths up to 30", 40-45# bows with arrow lengths up to 29", 46-51# bows with arrow lengths up to 28" and 52-57# bows with arrow lengths of up to 26". Then 250 Heritage shafts for 30-35# bows with arrow lengths over 31", 36-39# bows with arrow lengths over 30", 40-45# bows with arrow lengths over 29", 46-51# bows with arrow lengths over 28"and less than 31",  52-57# bows with arrow lengths over 26" and less than 31". 58-63# bows with arrow lengths up to 29", and 64-69# bows with arrow lengths up to 27". Anyone shooting a higher poundage would use the 350's. Plus I believe these are the heaviest shafts currently on the market, which not only makes them better for hunting, but more durable also.

CX doesn't have a tunning system like gt but the gt system will work on the CX shafts.  I.D. of CX is .250 and GTs are .246 and interchange.  I've never had a lot of luck with the nock weight system fitting tight even in GT shafts.  Advise from GT was to put a layer of dry superglue on the nock adapter to increase the diameter and create a tighter fit.

Check out  www.3riversarchery.com (http://www.3riversarchery.com)  for close up pics of the CX shafts.

I shoot 29" 150's with a 200 grain point out of my 52 lb. Black Widow recurve. They bareshaft perfect for me.

I think the 150s would be the best for that setup. I'm using the 150s with 100 grain inserts and 130 grain Zwickeys @ 29.5" pulling 49#. Any shorter or lighter up front or less poundage and they are too stiff.
Best regards,
Dan
