So I took my 10 year old out this morning on our ongoing quest to get him a shot at a deer.
We get to our spot just before daybreak and get settled in. We are hunting on the edge of 2 large CRP fields with a line of brush running down the middle. The grass is over 5ft tall so we just place a couple chairs inside the grass and make a few shooting holes. After 30 min of "Hey Dad" followed by a question and my respoce followed by "you gotta be quite" he starts to get tired. So I hold his bow and soon his head is lying on his knees. Just when all is quiet and looking good BOOM he goes head first off the chair onto the ground, sound asleep! Totally made my hunt! I used it to make the point to him about wearing a safety harness when in a tree stand.
Almost topped last weekend when we made it to our spot after a mile hike and he says "Dad, I gotta go the bathroom". He came home to mom with no socks on. :jumper:
Sounds like my 37 year old brother! Too funny! :biglaugh:
Love it! Great story!
 ...no socks! That made my day. I thought I was the only one with that kind of luck.
LOL
my friend cut the pockets out of his pants to cold to use his socks, now thats funny
Sounds like the perfect time to teach another lesson about leaving the truck without TP. :readit:
Learned a long time ago: TP, don't leave home without it! :nono:

My clothing is intact. That's why God made leaves!
Killdeer
cool story. I can relate
I just read your post to my wife and my 10 year old son... we all got a good laugh out of that one!
:bigsmyl:
Kids...they are entertaining if nothing else...and so much more! :bigsmyl:
Thanks for the story, aren't kids just great.
Great story.
Lost a few pr of shorts in such emergencies. Smart enough now to carry the proper supplies.
When my boys were young, they would sit in the pop up blind with me, and always fell asleep. Never fails, soon as they did, the deer would show up. I shot a doe on year during gun season while my son was asleep, he came out of his sleeeping bag so fast he broke the zipper. I found taking a bag out, they wouldnt get cold half hr after sunrise.
Huntin withkids is always fun. Might not kill a lot of deer, but its good stuff for sure.
Great story, thanks for sharing!!!
That is funny,my daughter when she was five had to pee after she watched me put up a new stand.Murphys Law!
Takin youngins huntin can be as much a pleasure as you let it.
I got a few shirts with no pockets on 'em.
my son started hunting when he was 10 he is now 13 an hunting alone. bow only. I have found he dose alot better without me.he says I am a pain to hunt with because I never shut up.I try so hard to get him a deer I get on his nerves. he says all he wants to do is relax an enjoy the hunt.the deer will come.imagin that.you go through so much with them kids an its all worth it.
I just hope he gets an opportunity this year. He had one chance last year and I blew it for him, moved at the wrong time. I just don't want him to get discouraged. We may take some time off of deer and focus on squirrels for a while to take the prssure off.
