Title: Explain grips please
Post by: acollins on October 14, 2011, 03:44:00 PM
Could someone explain the different types of grips. I hear about a high wrist and low wrist and so on. I would like to see a picture of each one and the positives and negatives of each. Thanks

A high wrist grip is what you find on most recurves where your wrist doesn't bend a whole lot.  A low wrist grip is just the opposite where your wrist has some more bend in it.  It will be easier to see if someone can find a pic.

The high, medium, and low is just what it says.
It is the size of the palm in the grip. These are the three standerds but all can very to your likes in a custom bow.Medium being the most popular with most shooters. The throat of the the grip is the the area your fingers go around. The throat can also be customized for the shooter.Small throat being the most popular.Hope this answers your question.

Each bow will have a main "pivot or pressure point" in the grip. This will be the point where the archer will feel the most pressure from the bow while at full draw. This point should be consistist. Where this point lies can be high, low or anypoint inbetween. See the picture below. This hand position would be more for a recurve style grip. The pressure or pivot point of the grip should be somewhere inside the blackend portion.
