Need details? email me or call 678-3002883
What others have said-
Yellow Dog
Ouch, got to think real hard on this one. It'll give me something to think about sitting six feet off the ground at Bear Quest 6 in a couple of days
Twitchstick-
If I didn't have too many tags in my pocket this year I'd be there. After talking with Ray on the phone about Kansas a person that had the time to go would be nuts for not going.
Robhood23
Hey Ray,
Please do this again next year! I would have gone this year but we are taking the kids back to disney the 7th through the 14th. I think my wife did this on purpose b/c she knows how crazy I get during the rut!!
------------------------
Doe tags are available over the counter...as are turkey tags for the fall season. I'm being told these are Eastern turkeys so if you like killing eastern turkeys with a buff -colored tail band you should come just for that alone!
We stay in a 6 bedroom farm house with plenty of room to stretch out- basement for our gear and getting dressed....plenty of room to practice shooting out back.
There's a full kitchen, bathrooms, and a washer and dryer for HUNTING CLOTHES!
We're hunting several other farms also- the main ranch raises organic wheat grass, with corn alfalfa, clover rounding things out.
The land is somewhat hilly...not too bad, with some drainages and small canyons with lots of hardwoods and cedars interspersed.
I've personally never seen game in the numbers we experienced there. Flocks of rio's up to 80 and 90 birds, I would regularly see 10-30 does a night- and bucks. Big, awesome whitetails. We went at the wrong time last year.
The landowner is new to offering hunts- and is not a bowhunter but he knows his whitetails and where they bed, move, and feed. We've adjusted to the first two weeks of November this year to take better advantage of pre-rut movement.
The area is very conducive to both ground blinds and treestand hunting. And there be giants
The hunts arrive Noon Nov 10th- hunt runs through Friday Nov 16th. Leave early Saturday
This week I have 2 slots left
There is a processor in the area that does an absolutely awesome job with venison- for 60 bucks he'll cut up, grind, package your deer and freeze it for your trip home.
This is 20 minutes outside Lawrence, KS so there's access to shopping, dining out, etc if you've a mind for that but we went grocery shopping and cooked our meals each evening.
The hunt is $1,850 per man. You can bring your own stands and hang them or use the ones that are set up now....or bring your stool. Plenty of natural materials and locations for ground ambushes. Larry and I walked up on a MONSTER when setting a ground blind up for him to hunt out of.
Read through this thread...and if you are seriously interested, email me and I can give you more details. rayhammond01@yahoo.com

Larry Surtees, Matt Yacca, Jared Marinelli, Paul Kimbol, Jed Riddell and I are here for six days of fun first- and trying to get turkeys, songdogs, and Whitetails to come close
The weather is warmer than it should be, there's a drought, a gigantic white and burr oak crop all falling at once it seems but we don't care!
We're in theLand of Giants baby!

30-35 yards and down for the count
Nice doe, and best of luck to ya on the rest of your hunt.
WOW, that is a giant whitey!
Congrats Ray and good luck to the entire group!
:clapper:
Everyone has stories and will come on - tomorrow is last day of hunting!
You make me jealous. I miss Kansas. Gotta move back. That's my favorite place. Looks like you're having a good time!
Dang
congrats nice doe
Thats an expensive doe as a nonresident. Good luck on your buck.
cool beans
Congrats :)
Looking good Ray!Looking forward to the rest of the story.
Bill
Expensive? Well yes 52.00 I guess is expensive but i really like venison and she's twice the size of an average Georgia doe so 'yeaaaa backstraps'
I still cant get over that buck. I have a hard time calling him a deer. Hes one of those other worldly beasts that always make the right move at the right time and doesnt do all of the silly things the 3 1/2 year olds do. Id be happy just to step foot on his home turf.
I'll sure be looking for more stories out of this one! I've got a Kansas tag in my pocket and am really looking forward to getting down there. Although for us, it's going to be a late December hunt, so leave a few, will ya?
Saw 21 deer last night
Just not the 'right' one if you know what I mean
CoolRay, call me or Matt when you get home, we have a hunt we need you to come with us on.
Good job Ray. Hope you gaff a Big Buck. That doe is bigger than most bucks I kill here.RC
Good job on the flathead Ray!!!
Any luck putting some bone on the ground??
Welcome to the land of AAAAAAHS. Wish you luck. What part of Kansas are you in?.

Pshhhh! Whatever! I see 21 deer in my sleep :readit: :biglaugh:
Spoke to Matt Biggie
I'm in!
Cyclic- they're bigguns too right? !!!!
Mine always are
Hopefully more to come
I know Larry has two stories to tell so far
Looking forward to the recap.
Bill
I sense the foreshadowing of a great hunt.
Most of my greatest hunts have not ended with a harvest.
Looking forward to hearing more of yours and your group's experience.
Nice shooting on the doe Ray but you didnt drive from Georgia just to shoot a big doe did ya? I believe what someone was saying is that the nonresident license and buck and doe tag aren't the cheapest. Plus if you add the expenses of getting there and back. I hope that doe is tastier than the ones from your home state. Can't wait to hear how the rest of the gang faired on this hunt. :campfire:
Thanks for sharing!
more pics please!
We are traveling home today so look for stuff tomorrow
Sweet! Congrats on the doe. Can't wait for ...the rest of the story.
Thanks for sharing. Can't wait for the rest of the story. I'll be lucky to see 21 deer all season on the public land where I hunt. Look forward to these stories to keep me on course.
:campfire:
Cool stuff hunting in the "Land Of Giants". But...you cant go around calling stuff "Land of Giants" and expect to not get the "Humble" slapped down on-ya. ;) You gotta be a little more reserved...go in with real low expectations...and then "bam" the big boy graces you with his presence at 15 yards. Reverse psychology...works everytime (actually about 10% of the time). :bigsmyl:
C'mon Larry...I am looking forward to some stories.
Larry had a great trip
He's driving so it'll have to br tomorrow

Glad to hear it. He deserves it.
pins and needles! Can't wait to here!
:campfire: :campfire:
Spent a week there last year (KS/NE border) and will spend 3 weeks there 2012. There is no place like it IMO. I came home buck less last year too. But bringing home 2 does that meant I had 300lbs of meat... Doesn't hurt your feelings any!!
Good job Ray. Did you learn how to shoot deer from Biggie?
Can't wait for the rest of the story.
I was hunting right on the edge of a sanctuary we didn't want to go into
I shot her through the front legs and lungs which put her down quickly - I was thankful!
Buckless is a price paid by selective hunters sometimes but I was real close to dropping the string twice on the same toad so I had a great time- and we are going back in November to try to use my tag
We just went thru LBL Kentucky area on our way to GA
:campfire: :coffee:
Anxious to hear the details.
:campfire:
Great looking monster buck, love that picture. Congrats on the Doe., Ray. Hope all of you have a great hunt.
Looking forward to hearing about this. Sounds like it's gonna be a good'n.....
:coffee:
I just can't get over the rocking chair on that deer's head! Impatiently waiting for the whole story.
Well, let me just start off by saying thanks to Ray for setting up the hunt. Even though I didn't come home with a buck, I came home with some new friends and memories and sometimes that is what it's all about!
I did take the camera out, but usually when there were no bucks around...I guess i'm just not cordinated enought to use the camera and the bow at the same time. Here are a few photos from one of the first mornings.

Thought she was going to run me over!!
The next couple of days I decided to move to an open field bordered by hardwoods. I was hoping to see, at least, where the deer were moving. I set up the decoy to hopefully get the attention of any buck passing by.
At about 9am I had an absolute GIANT of a buck appear at the opposite end of the field...he already had his eye on the decoy and didn't seem real happy about the buck in his area. He proceeded to make his way across the field right toward the decoy. This was,for sure, the biggest deer I have ever seen. I'm not quite sure how big the rack was...but it was large!!
Anyway, he made is way toward me (quartering toward me the whole time) and I never had a shot that I felt comfortable with.
In this photo you can actually see the path the buck took in the wet grass as he made his way around the tree and toward the decoy.
I thought for sure I was in the money! But...as he came within ten yards of the decoy he decided to go on a rampage...plowing right through the decoy!!!
This is what was left of the poor little guy!
The buck pretty much spooked after blowing the decoy to pieces and ran off about 40 yard behind me before stopping and disappearing into the woods.
Oh well! Even though I didn't get the shot, it's somthing i'll never forget for sure!
Here are a few more photos from that same spot, but know sign of that buck again.

The last couple of days I left the camera behind and hunted a couple of other areas only seeing smaller bucks, does, yotes, and tons of turkeys!
I sure hope I can make it back in November, but if not, you can bet i'll be right back there next year!
:campfire:
I love that pic of J-Rod's Decoy, we were texting the whole time you could just read the excitment in the text. I'll keep it short and sweet as I have No tales Of blood Trails. I Had shots at small bucks Literally every day of the hunt. Most of them which came right under my stand and hung out for a bit. I took My SLR out the first day and the deer were coming in so close It was hard to decipher weather to Pick up my bow or camera with the fear of "the one" coming in and I had the wrong weapon of choice in hand. So I opted to leave the camera at the house and keep my iPhone on hand for pictures which has proven "crappy" From a photographers standpoint. I got a couple that I can post later but Nothing to bark over. The land was beautiful and there was a ton of wildlife. It was a blast to watch the Turkey and racoons. They wer absolutely Everywhere. Made it hard when the deer were around. Always seemed to add 30 more eyes...
At any rate the hunt for me is always about just BEING THERE. And having the experience. I met some AMAZING people on this trip. We laughed AT and with each other, and Fun was Had. Everyone of these men were Kind and generous, this is what matters most. Thanks again fellas ..lets do it again real Soon!
:campfire:
Getting good!
:campfire:
Nice photos guys.....
Lovin it!! :campfire:
Very cool thread how did I miss this one!!!
Thought I'd throw my $0.02 in here. We had a great time. Couldn't ask for a better group to hunt with than the guys who showed up. Hell I'd hunt with those guys on an iceberg just for the company and the fun we had goofing around when we weren't on stand.
Didn't kill anything, but that turned out to be pretty much beside the point. Ray got his doe, Larry got a coyote and doe - two really nice shots. Those 250gr heads he's shooting do a pretty thorough job.
Leaving aside some of the great lines from the mutual harassment society we had going on, the funniest thing that happened was one night I was sitting in a little ground blind I'd built. Four does came in about 20 yards out. Being optimistic I decided to wait for a buck that never showed up, but as the does were feeding some bird, who sounded like Satan's parrot let out a bloodcurdling screech. The does ears and tails went up. It screeched again and they ran out about 30 yards, stood there for a while and apparently concluded that whatever it was was all talk, so they came back down.
The screech was immediately heard again, but the does paid no attention. That really annoyed whatever it was for about 20 seconds we had "SCREECH" every two or three seconds while the does just kept eating. I guess whatever it was gave up on scaring the does again, but damn it was funny listening to whatever was really making the noise get more and more frustrated while the does ignored him.
Now if you want to hear something really funny, get Matt to describe his ride in the red Rav4 to you sometime.
Can't wait for the Nov installment!
Too funny Paul....I've had stuff like that happen too....its all you can do to keep from busting out laughing.
Sounds like you were in a screech owl's territory-and he wanted you gone. They can make an eerie sound.
Guys...check out this thread from last year. Some of our group are going back and we have a total of 10 slots open during two- one week hunts as described in my beginning post.

Ray, count me in, will give you a call. Ray Reid
Just heard from Aldo, Ray! Hey Aldo Ray! nobody here is old enough to remember that guy.
Heard from Aldo, you are down for the first week.
Nice Racks. Are those some yall shot on the hunt Ray? How many big bucks did yall take? All ways wanted to hunt where the big boys live. Just haven't found the time or the right place.
we went early season, bud...and they had a hundred year burr oak crop that put the kaibosh on all deer movement- I've never seen so many acorns
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e322/rayhammond123/biggunks5.jpg)
If you'll read through the thread you'll see we did not take a buck...but saw many...including some real bruisers.
Talk to KSDAN about the property if you want an unbiased, disinterested opinion of what quality of place it is. I hope he doesn't mind me telling you to do that?!!!!!
six slots left fellas.
Two in the first week, two in the second
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e322/rayhammond123/biggunks3.jpg)
Guys- this is the real deal. It will be hard to find better mature whitetail hunting anywhere. I mean that! These deer have food, plots, feeders, lots of big habitat, and age. I have no vested interest other than I have hunted the surrounding area for 14 years. Besides the success of good company and the setting, I am predicting 30-50% PY opps. A couple may even get a look at a genuine BC- they are there.
Besides- I will stop in and say "Hi." That has got to be worth an extra 25C. :)
Dan Rudman (Living right here in the paradise!)
Some awesome pics coming
