The plaid shirt is pretty good too.

Friends and family.
They've all been mentioned already, but for me it's wool clothes, a good sheath knife, wood arrows, wood and canvas canoe, canvas lean to, cowboy coffee, smooth sipping whiskey for after the hunt, and maybe even a cigar. Have been hunting with side-by-sides and plying the waters with fly rods for nearly 50 years. As I get old(er), I more and more appreciate my cabin in the woods and Franklin wood stove. They all seem to go together.
Camping with Family and Friends, a meal cooked for and shared with friends, Fishing with Friends at that secret spot, Walking in the woods, studying the woods, hunting in the woods and time alone on stand or blind, thinking and praying. That's what goes best for me with Trad Archery...
Martin
I don't think I can mention where I got this online. Anyhow, I'll be wearing it this Saturday, can't wait!

A camp fire ,SHelled peanuts & beer .
Hearing a Grouse drumming while sitting !
Well said, Sixby.
As I read thru these items I realize that I don't have many of them. I wonder sometimes if I'm "Traditional" enough or maybe I'm just modern Trad.
I have the good friends, but prefer rubber boots. I have a hat, but it's camo and of the baseball style. I don't own wool or plaid..I wear MossyOak camo and carry a Thermacell as to not give away my position swatting at skeeters. My truck is a Ford and my shotgun is an autoloader. I use trailcams to locate large antlers and shoot carbon w/ bright feathers that have been waterproofed w/ silicone and illuminated nocks at them. I use limbsavers on my FF string and velcro on my shelf. I wear Under Armor and high tech wicking socks. I don't play a guitar, but love Metalica, Classic 80's rock, County, and even some new Rap music. I find comfort in my GPS, weather radar, and the compass apps on my phone. My headlamp is an LED w/ multiple colors.
I do however live on 200ac that I work my bum off to pay for. We grow a garden and have no city water, cable, or satalite tv. I heat my house w/ wood. I believe in Jesus Christ our Savior and send my son to Catholic school for a Christian education. Solitude to me is time spent on a tractor or sitting on stand. I prefer to hunt w/ simple equipment because it is a challange.
Maybe.....just maybe....I'm "Modern Trad"
:archer2:
Not the same line of thought, but,
I'd give all up to spend a week with my grandfather up at hunting camp ,at North Lake in the Adirondacks, and this time, being older and wiser let him know how special that time was--1Longbow
Having lots of tradional books in my library of the old timers such as Marice Thompson, Saxton Pope, Howard Hill, Fred Bear, and all the other bowhunters of years past. I go in and take one off the shelf and thumb thru it once a week.
Also my shop outside has all my longbows, recurves, and hunting stuff to play with. I lock it up and have the only key. Only special guest are invited in.
To call my old bowhunting friends of over 50 years and discuss bowhunting. Ken
hunting/ wandering the woods with something YOU made.
The sunlight filtering through the golden aspens like a chapel window.
The first bugle of the morning.
The snap of a twig.
The time spent in anticipation of the upcoming season (going through gear, fletching arrows, rereading journals...)
a leather hunting journal.
realizing you have everything you need.

A canvas tent, a mountain breeze, an evening campfire, family and friends, th smell of urnt turkey feathers and duco, pot of vension chili, the comfort of a worn shooting glove, wool and fleece, damp leaves, and the smile of a successful son.
The sun rising on a crisp fall morning in the tree stand.
Bowie Knives and traditional bows go together like pancakes and eggs.
Ah, but here are a few others as well:
• A half inch of snow on the tent in the morning
• November Mule Deer Rutting in the snow-dusted high country
• Frozen Mustaches
• Frozen Toes
• The smell of the tiny fire you lit on a lonely ridge to thaw your hands out
And last but not least. . .
. . . The big goofy grin that signifies the end of a hard but successful hunt
The entire beginning of Fred Bear's "Restless Spirit".
The 2 things that I pack first at the beginning of every hunting season, a photo of my Dad and I hunting (place it in my back tag) and his buck knife. My Dad passed 21 years ago Dec 13. By carrying these items, he's been with me every hunting every season since.
I think I most enjoy the odors associated with Traditional bowhunting:
An old Canvas Tent
The smell of woodsmoke on the night breeze
A cedar swamp or a pine forest
Damp wool
Decaying oak leaves and pine duff
and finally, the smell and taste of 3 fingers of a good bourbon at the end of the day.
Model 88 Winchester lever action, hatchet, double barrel shotguns, green and black plaid Johnson Woolen mills Jac Shirts.
There are certain "Things" that go with traditional archery that you cannot see.
These things we cannot see are by far MY favorite. Like the feeling in the pit of my stomach I have right now, because tommorrow is supposed to be chilly, a bit windy, and wet. Perfect for getting my feet on the ground and scratching my stalking itch. :campfire:
Old photographs of camps, and hunting buddies, and the "old heads" from long ago that handed down to us the love of the outdoors.
Doesn't seem to be much to add at this point.
That won't stop me tho...
I drive a Toyota but when I'm thinking trad, my thoughts go to a 1972 Chevy K2500, totally scratched up and muddy.
Anything wood, leather or wool. Stag handled knives.
But modern materials are good too.
LoweBow, you sound plenty Trad to me. I'm on 250 acres, wood heat, big garden and hunting out the back door. Don't know about the Rap music...
Family and Tradgang family!!!
For me it's all of the above.
Don't matter what country or part of the world we're from, we all seem to be pretty much the same!
LL Bean boots
A beagle
Broadhead file
Red Man
A quiet vista with nothing human on it but me!!!
How about the sound of hoofprints in leaves from a monster trophy P&Y deer(which in my trad world is any deer of any size) that walks by just out of range at a whopping 30 yds. Then you just smile and give thanks at the experience rather than the lack of a kill.
A good knife on my hip, my compass and old Marbles Match safe in my pocket and the smell of damp wool.
Coaster500, that is Good looking country!
To Izzy's "Fathers and sons." I would add "Fathers and daughters . . ."
My old 28 gauge Parker double and my old Orvis bamboo fly rod. My self bow and horn nocked bamboo arrows in my fox quiver. My fathers old hunting knife and a good cigar, Romeo and Juliata or a Macandu. My best friend and hunting companion my 8 year old wire haired pointer Cecil. My Jeep Wrangler and getting to spend a day in the woods with my son.
My goodness, we all seem to have listed almost all the same things in one way or another.... no big surprise there....
For me, First the friends and family. Hunting played a major role for my family.
Second, Wool like Woolrich... I grew up in the North East...
The good bird guns, yes SxS's in 20 and 16 ga. both American and even old european like my JP Sauer with Krupp barrels...
The hand down fly rods.. bamboo or early fiberglass along with boxes of favoriate hand tie's.
Have my Dads Fedora...
Have some old Bear RH's
The old deer rifles.. 94's and Savages...
My hand built muzzle loaders..
And we could all go on and on....

Amen Brother! Nice pic, it says alot, and says even more about traditional archery.
Wood fire, a big crock of venison chili with corn bread, the smell of damp wool and leather, respected hunting partners, all things hand made.
Launching an arrow skyward, almost vertical, and having a grandson or granddaughter, go "Wow Grandpa, thats a long ways"
and watching it fall to earth.......
This season? Skeeter bites & disappointment.
What? No chiggers??
Killdeer
