I have had my share of big name bows and then some, but have always turned up my nose at Zippers thinking that the risers looked squatty and unbalanced. Recently after seeing pics of my buddy Tom Jenkin's Zipper and trading numerous emails & PM's with him I decided to trade one of my longbows for a Zipper that was posted here in the classifieds. I'M HERE TO TELL YOU THAT I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG!!! The Zipper, in particular, the SXT, has the best grip of any bow that I have ever owned or shot bar none. The bow is extremely well balanced and pardon the pun...really zips an arrow. This bow points great, is dead in the hand, church mouse quiet and dead on accurate. If you get the chance you owe it to yourself to give one a try....Zippers Rock!!
Well we need some pics.
Yea, come on Fred-- we need pics!!!
Good stuff Fred. They are amazing bows.
What Fred has left out is he has called Bill and ordered one with his preferred woods. Can't wait to see that thing. I would say this bow will be on the classifieds when the new one arrives. Hint,Hint.

Anyone know the circumference at the throat of the grip? Sweet bow by the way is that riser maple and cocobolo?
They are sweet shooting bows,I favor my Zipper ZSR!
I had my misgivings about the zipper bows for a while too until I decided to try one out for myself. A 13" SXT ILF riser that I got on the classifieds with a set of tradtech longbow limbs. I am also extremely impressed with the feel and workmanship of his riser. One of these days I'm going to have him make a set of XL limbs to go with it.
I didn't think I would like the finger grooves but after trying them I found them to be very comfortable.

I bought a used one at Denton in 2010, then an extra set of longbow limbs, Now I just got a new ILF riser from Bill that I saw at Denton this year. I'm not a total snob.......but they are nice. I'm shooting my new one as well as I ever shot anything!
Sounds like you found a Keeper Fred! Great looking Bow! :archer: Good for you enjoy her and good hunting! :archer2:
My first Zipper was an UGLY looking standard that Bill had named Black Beauty. He had it discounted at Compton's a few yers back and I kept shooting it against the rest of the bows, much prettier bows, and finally realized that not only was this bow a great value, but a great shooter. It is now my bowfishing bow, and I am thinking of stripping her down and hunting with her. She just has "IT". My favorite overall riser is the ZSR and I love Bill's EVO limbs. I currently own 3 different Zippers. Can't find a better bowyer to deal with, although Chuck and South are pretty good bowyers also!
Shot at least five different Zippers at the World.
They deserve both a closer and serious look.
Bill and his wife are great people and extremely patient. I must have gone to their tent at least eight times over two days.
If she is a match then you definately have a find.
Congrats!!!!
Hey Fred.....if you ever want to get rid of either of them lemme know....LOL! I know you pick woods I love and your specs are in the rt range!!!! Did I hear Zircote and myrtle???
Zippers are the best... I have 3 and I'm next on the list for another sxt :archer2:
still don't like the looks of them.
That's what's so great about Zippers. Even the ones you don't think are pretty, shoot like movie stars! :D
Gotta love Zipper bows !!! The SXT is by far my favorite recurve.
Bill
Mike, Yeah you heard right...ziricote riser with bocote flair and myrtle limb veneers over foam/carbon dull textured finish..60" 52#@28".

I thought the same thing....now I have two of them!!
Shot an SXT for the first time a few weeks ago. Felt like a long lost friend.
I bought/sold/traded I don't know ... 100-125 bows over a 7-8 year period? I like 11 at one time !!
I too shunned the Zipper for years, then bought an all bamboo one .... then maybe 5-6 more before downsizing everything I had (even my precious non-ACS Adcock that I wish I could find and buy back now for sentiment sake) and now the all bamboo and another Extreme are the only 2 bows I have
LOVE them - and Zipper folks are the best too
I too am a huge Zipper fan and was not always keen on the riser...but until I experieced one for myself, I had no idea.
Glad you got one to try out Fred, I am sure you will love the the new one you have coming.
Love them.
At the begining I was not really attracted by the Zipper handle it looked so bulky, but when i had one on my hands I found it very well proportioned and the bow shoots like a dream.
I am a Zipper believer, try to believe it!
Nice bows :)
Need to get my hands on one of them :D
Fred,
:readit: :goldtooth: :jumper: You know where I'm going with this don't ya Fred? 8 months max I tell ya 8 months...

Ahhhh that's music to my ears! LMAO!!!
I have all the confidence in the world that Bill will come up w/ some beautiful woods for it. After shooting a 1/2 doz of his bows at his shop I'm truely a fan of the Zipper bows. Too bad I'm bow poor at the moment or I'd be in line also. Best of luck with the bow Brother..we'll be patiently waiting to see how it turns out!
Mike
to be honest i never really liked fred. he really IS a snob and has a very abrasive personality, to put it mildly..
however, he is a bowaholic too and therefore always has new bows for me to try. it's obviously in my best interest to pretend to be "friends" with him no matter how hard that is.
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
keefer, normally i'd say 6 months (if that) not 8 but this time i think we'd be wrong. freds found a keeper and rightfully so!!!!
Mike, If I had any feelings they would be hurt :biglaugh:
If there was a bow named after every letter in the Alphabet Fred has made it to the end...I can think of about 10 Fred had in the past 6 months...Hoots,BlackCanyon,Kananti,Morrison,Thunderhorn,Black Widow,Crowcreek,Pronghorn,Fox and Zipper...Who wants to play this game just add whatever bows you know Fred has had...Good thing his addiction is bows and not women or his wife will :biglaugh: Fred don't take this personnally we/I just like to push ya to your breaking point... :D
Now see there Keefer there you go exaggerating again..there was no Morrison or Black Widow... :bigsmyl:
Fred, looks to me like you have the same kind of buddies as I do. :D They are always there to keep things interesting.
Bill
Got that right Bill. :D
Keefer...you skipped over T for Tall Tines....
Bill, Funny thing, one of my buddies (you know who you are...LOL) told me today that he just traded for a Zipper that was posted in the classifieds. Guess he liked the way mine shot!
Fred,
I was just guessing so I was more then half right...I can't say much cause I've traded/sold about as many...I just know if I ever want to know how a certain bow performs before I buy I can always "Just ask Fred"...Remember that commercial years ago Just ask Mikey He trys anything? We can use that commercial for Fred...Just ask Fred He shot all of them... :biglaugh:
Nice bow Fred. One of these days i might own one.
Jeez Fred, these guys are relentless! Good luck with your new "fling", keep Mike away from those things, they are addictive..haha
Scott, It's to late...see post above..LOL
I have an older Zipper, bought it in 1994. It's a Stacey Groscup signature model, 60", 61# @ 28". I haven't used it for a number of years because I couldn't handle the weight anymore. Anyway, last year I deceided to buy lighter limbs for it. They had 43 pounders in stock so I ordered them. I have to say, it is probably one of the best shooting bows that I now have.
DaveP
yes scott, it's too late for me. save yourself man before he gets you too!! :help: :help: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
