I'm having a hard time trying to pattern any deer around here. There are white oak acorns EVERYWHERE. I'm set up on a couple good groves of trees. Is it just a matter of waiting for them to get there? I have been scouting and haven't found any places where they are favoring it over another.
Having the same problem myself , move closer to acorns near bedding areas or bedding area trails leading to acorns .
dude, i wish i had your problem! Only thing getting hit in my area is apples, there are no nuts on the ground
wish we had deer! Blue tounge took about 50% of our herd in 09, now we are left with very few deer at all. Use to see 40+ a night, now I'm lucky to see 40 in a season!!!
i can't say that i have too many acorn because of our late summer drout... the good ones aren't falling yet. i do like Mike and try to hunt the trails leading to the acorn flats. pinch points in the land are another good option.
When there is heavy acorn years check for the squirrel cuttings. Wherever the most squirrel cuttings are you generally find the most deer activity. The squirrels knock them down before they are ripe and the deer hit them early. It patterns the deer in a sense.
At least here anyway...
With the severe drought we've had in Texas, I'm surprised our water and live oaks have acorns.
We have the same problem around here,acorns are everywhere!!!!

yea! that full moon aint helpin none either. acorns everywhere...and theyer still falling..
Saturday when I was sitting in my stand, I had 5 tree rats moving in the oaks and the acorns sounded like coconuts hitting the ground.
Found no acorns on my place here in SE AL except for one water oak with sparse droppings. Huge white oaks in the creek bottom are bare. We're in a drought disaster area, so I imagine that explains it.
Wow a flashback from the last two years here. This year is different. We don't have them everywhere just here and there and the ones you find the deer are killing them. Makes it so much easier to hunt them.

Also hunt those closest to bedding areas
If you aren't seeing fresh droppings in the area of your stand then scout till u find them

Same problem here, nuts everywhere.
I'm working my way to water sources rather than food sources. A deer could jsut about eat his fill here right now without ever having to stand up.
Look for the resource they need that is scarce, right? Food, water, cover.
The main area I hunt is a 40K acre section of public land where nearly every other tree is an oak tree (and it surrounds a lake). Acorns are everywhere and finding the active oak trees is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Basically, I'm looking at persimmon trees, bedding areas and travel routes.
Right now I've been keeping an eye on a couple spots with water but not enough sign to get excited about. Also watching a couple nice persimmons that are loaded. After hunting this property for the last 40 years I have never located a decent funnel and the deer don't stick to established trails very well.
Yeah, I've always wondered about folks that talk about deer trails and funnels. Deer just don't move that way on our place!
Same here, food every place! They don't need to travel during daylight hours. It should start to get better soon if the bucks start pushing does? I hope?
I've been getting some decent buck pic's on the trail cam, but there all between 12:00pm & 3:00am It's also been a little to hot around here, today it did cool down & I'm going to hunt some starting Friday.
