Looks like one I had in my backyard last year! I'd say that one went 200 lbs.
thats exactly what i had thought, 200 give or take. your treestand might see some action if Charlie hunts with me soon.
If you get one,,case the front legs out,,that is, skin them by turning it wrong side out.Leave the foot on it but you will have to do some teddious work to get the toe bones and all you can out of the foot. After it is fleshed good soak it in a bucket with as much 20 mule team boraxas will disolve in the water.Soak a cpl of days. Then strech it over a tapered cut board flesh side out. When dry it will be stiff but preserved and insect proof. Add a strap and you will have a unique back quiver.
I saw it!!! It's a 500 pounder for sure!!!!! :scared:
It is hard to tell from these pics ,but if I had to guess.
Judging by what I can see . The ears are pretty high on it's head and its legs are still slender so I would guess it to be a younger bear around 200-225
Yes, Ken, about 200 seems right. Bears that size really taste great! Good luck up on the mtn.

Just guessing from limited experience with dead bears I have handled. I think its a 160 175 lb bear. Sweet hide on it.
Heh, I'm no pro, but I've shot 6 bears from 140 pounds to over 400 pounds and have seen about 50 in the woods while hunting, and many more while working for an Alberta guide back in the early 90's. No way you are going to tell from those photos. Its certainly not a cub, but thats as far as anyone can tell you. I've seen huge bears with big ears and small bears with tiny ears, the opposite from what it should be. Tall thin ones and short fat ones, everything in between.
But if anyone had to guess, I'd go with Woodchucker and say possible world record. It will beef up the excitement.
Fantastic to know they are around. Hope there are follow up threads on this one. I love bears!
I'm with Izzy: Beautiful coat!
Ken,I've got a lot of bears on camera and really,it is almost impossible to tell, from any angle but especially from that one.My first impression,I wanted to say 200 but Izzy's guess of 160-175 could be right on the mark.Keep in mind,a big, mature boar fathered those cubs.He may not come around every day but he will come around.
Agreed that it is a beautiful coat. It is a tough angle with the camera as well, but I say 200 all day, also not sure it is the same bear in both photos as the first one appears a bit bigger, wider ass and shoulders. Shawn
I was taking the date on the pictures into consideration with my guess, fatting up for winter.
I STILL say 500 pounds!!!!! Maybe MORE!!!!!!!!!! :scared:
I'm with Izzy also. Tops 175#. Perfect size bear.
i say i don't want to shoot another bear BUT if the little green light goes off in my head ya never know! he is right where i turkey hunt and really don't want to think about that as i am calling ya know!
No "ground shrinkage" to it... When he hopped down off the bank, and landed on the "ground" in front of me... HE WAS BIG AS A HOUSE!!!!! :scared:
bigger than a woodchucker but smaller than a bread truck :bigsmyl:
I agree with Chuck. definitely a 9 footer and 700 lbs.
I think Izzy is in the ballpark.
Chuck were you looking in a mirror.... :biglaugh: He is a nice bear!!!
well maybe we will know if we can weigh it when Ron W slides an arra through his ribs tommorow!
I hope Chuck gets him next week........I'll help drag and skin!!! But I might just shoot him if I got the chance........It would have to be the ideal situation!!
If Ron shoots him I wonder what will kill him first, the broadhead or the HANDSHOCK from that Hill! :D ;) :p
Owlbait....I think you need a hug..... :biglaugh: I think I'll have my River Runner by Chad Holm in the Mourning....but I could take the Hill!!
I'm with Izzy on this one.......my first guess was in the 175# range.
No more than 200...Bears always look bigger than they really are. I wouldn't pass it up....
Chuck...you have to stop drinking that blue juice
Now this bear is between 3-400 lbs...

The one with Pink ribbon weighed in close to 220#

Big enough!
Have fun hunting him and good luck!
i'm guessing over 100 and less than 600.
