For you guys who use ground blinds, do the deer gets spook when you set a ground blind up in a new area? I know some people said to brush them in but does it real work? I am planning to use it in WMA during the weekend.
Brush it in really well. it will work. Also try to put them out about a month before the season .Use them with my kids in early season
If you have to brush them in, why not just construct a simple ground blind from natural brush materials in the area and you won't have to worry about theft and can leave them for game to get used to the simple change in their environment. It works real well.
I think brushing in blinds only works when you can pretty much totally conceal the blind. If it is pretty much going to be out in the open, brushing in doesn't help much, jmho. I've had deer come within range of my blind the day I set it out, and that was in a snow covered alfalfa field, needless to say it stuck out like a sore thumb.
I just had a button buck walk right up to the blind, staring into the "black hole" the whole way over. He stood less than 10 feet away from the blind, craped, turned around and walked off. A little while after that, a doe wasn't having any part of it. She kept blowing and stomping, finally had enough, left and took her 2 fawns with her.
I guess it just depends on the deer. They are stupid, and smart.
leaving one out in a WMU is asking for trouble.
