Title: Coon vs. Deer
Post by: Bill Carlsen on October 07, 2011, 08:36:00 AM
We have an overabundance or racoons on our property so I have set out some traps (lower right in pics) to try to deplete the population. When I pulled the camera card yesterday I found this sequence. The coon won this one but I got another one in a nearby trap and can only hope it was this guy who has gone on to greener pastures.

Cool pix Bill, get some snares and put them in the creek banks. You will clean up on them.

The racoons are protected in Iowa by the need to have a fur bearers license to shoot them. There are way too many of them here. I am thinking there should be open season on them like coyotes and everyone should have coon skin linings and collars on their coats.
Best of luck with your traps.

Cool pics. Trail cameras are great just to see what is out there.  I once saw a coon run off a spike buck, looked like he did it just for fun.

Coons aren't pursued anything like they were in times of not long ago.

Now they seem to be every where. I always imagine that for every coon(skunks included) I see, there are two less turkeys that I will not see.

I got one of the youngsters at that site yesterday and a really big one near my wife's stand two days ago. I figure I have 3 big ones left that need a change of scenery.

Get after 'em Bill. Make yourself a hat. Had one but too scared to wear it into the woods.

Cool pix, thanx for sharing.

Four near grown coon cubs once had a confrontation with a button buck under my tree. One of the most hilarious things I’d ever seen in the woods. Still creates a smile thinking bout it…8^)

Really cool set of pictures.  I have seen some coons run off a small buck also. I got a few friends that are big time coon hunters that say if a coon wants to be he will be the baddest joker in the woods.  One told me a story how a coon drown his dog in the river.....
