I bareshaft tested 30" Easton Axis 400 with 125 gr points. I'm shooting a Hoyt Dorado 50lbs left handed. I'm drawing 29". It appears its hitting nock right. Should I try 340's?

I also would like to mention that the sideplate is built out to the centerline of the bow.

Check out what he says about nock position on his tuning page.

Your shafts should be too stiff.Sometimes a shaft is so stiff that it bounces off the edge of the shelf and impacts looking like it is too weak. This is called a false weak indication.I think that is what you have. For a bow that weight, cut to center,I would think you would need a lot more point weight to dial those in.If you want to shoot 125 gr heads, you probably need .500 shafts. You can verify by adding more point weight.I don't mean a little point weight,I mean like starting at 200 grs and working up.340's would be way too stiff.

Thanks for the advice. I definitely want to go up in point weight. The more the better. I will experiment with heavier points.
-
If you run that in Stu's calculator it could be close. I shot bows with side plate at center to 1/8" past about your weigth and draw. I find I need a weaker arrow. In most bows set up about like that with a 30" arrow I need 100 gr. insert and about 145 point. Give or take some due to bow design.

You should definitely be able to do it with .400's.I just went over my notes and it looks like I would need app.225 gr points, using an aluminum insert.I draw 29" and my arrows are cut to 30" and most of my bows are 50# or close. You may need something different but 200 grs or so would be a starting point.I make some custom field point weights when I need to,using glue on points and steel adapters. You should be able to find 200,225 and 250.
I'd be interested to hear what weight works for you.

Way too stiff, getting an opposite reaction. Put 325 up front and you will be close. I am not kidding. You could shoot a .500 spine with 225 up front out of that set up! Shawn

I would think a 400 would be too stiff. Try going way up in point weight, or move to a .500.

you could also move that side plate back in so you are past centerline (if possible)....by pushing the arrow out you are needing a weaker arrow..ie forcing a bend, playing with dynamic spine. THe joys of fine tuning lol. I would have it set as far past center as it would go and creep back towards the centerline. I've considered sending my longbows back in and having them taken down for this very purpose. I dont compete, so I really dont care what they are cut too. If you have that option, I'd use it. It may not be enough on its own but it WILL help some.
I dont know the bow but if you can move the contact points (if you use them, I call them pressure points which isnt the right way of saying it), forward or back you adjust the dynamic spine also. Moving it forward till weakn the arrow slightly.
String material and size (strand count)is another way to tinker with spine when you get close. ANd of course the obvious point weights....So many options....do only 1 at a time though or you'll not know for sure if you're getting correct info or not!

I will play with the sideplate some more. I've been thinking of using 100gr brass adapters along with 200, 225 and 250gr points. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks again.

I shoot a 52 @29 for a Bob lee I shoot 400 with 250 up front a arrow are 30 bop

I am using brass HIT inserts at 75gr with 200gr field points. The bareshafts are now flying perfectly. The real test is to shoot with broadheads.Any suggestions for a 200gr broadhead? I've been considering Woodsman Elites.

VPA Terminators if you like 3 blades.VPA Penetrators if you like 2.You can use a variety of different weight glue on heads and match different weight adapters to bring them up to 200 grs also.

Those Woodsman Elites/VPA Terminators are great heads. Spin true, sharpen well, and tough as they look. Wouldn't hesitate to use them...
-
You shouldn't need that much up front. I am shooting a ilf RECURVE 44@30 and my 31" 400'S put bullet holes in paper with 190-200 up front...PR

This gets my vote. I picked up some 200 grn VPA penetrators and am impressed with the design. They are tough.
