I am not really as astute in the aspect of tillering a bow as some others here so I'm going to pick some brains here. I shoot split fingers and am interested in trying to shoot 3 under. My Widow is tillered for split so I'm wondering what effects going to 3 under will have on my bow. I've searched but cannot find the answer that I am looking for.
Not sure what the answer is you are looking for, but You will more than likely have to raise your nocking point and it will probably increase in string noise. Solutions to the nosie is to replace the string with a SBD and use heavier arrows.
What Rick said....I also dont see any real difference in how a bow is tillered having owned several of both........
I shoot 3 under and have had bows tillered for three under and some that werent.
All my bows were louder when shot three under as opposed to split.
Shooting 3 under will have no negative effect on any bow, might have to raise the nocking point as already stated.
Having to raise your nock point, assuming your current arrow set-up is well tuned is the only difference you should be able to discern.
Note: Three under is nearly always typically a little louder than shooting split.
Trust me no need to tiller any bow different for 3 under or split. Its only split finger bowyers that do it .Ive shot 3 under since the 60s no difference...Tim
I don't if there would be much difference in a widow, but I had a longbow that was tillered for three under. the limbs were identical in length, the grip was dead center in the bow and the limbs were tillered equally, no 1/8" shorter from fadeout to string. the efect was that it did not need to have the nock raised much,3/16" to the bottom of the arrow,to shoot a good arrow.
