I have been a bow hunter for over 30 years. I started with a recurve (I think before compounds came out) but I could not hit a thing. I missed many deer and when the compounds came out I moved on to them and never looked back. Last fall my cousin came up to Ohio for a Trad shoot close to me and brought a recurve for me to shoot and it was alot of fun ( I only lost one of his arrows). then he came up and hunted with me and brought the recurve and we shot all week. Well I bought a recurve to play with this year and the coumpound has set in the corner. I have been shooting in the yard and went to 3D shoots and thought maybe I could "get er done" on a deer this fall. I know there is a big difference between 3D and hunting! Well the season came in here in Ohio and I went out Saturday. Just me and the recurve. No sights, no release, no fall away rest, no range finder, just a recurve and me. It was so much fun not carrying and worry of all of the other stuff. Along came a doe about 25 yards broadside, perfect opportunity. I started thinking, can i do this? But then all of the practice took over, the bow came up as I drew, I hit anchor point, there was the spot and before I thought, the arrow was on the way. WOW what a rush! I have taken alot of nice deer with a bow, but this was really different. It was not all of the Tech stuff that harvested this one. It was only me and a little recurve.
I read on Tradbow last year of a first Trad kill by a hunter in Ga. and how a buddy had got him started. The buddy was Robhunter and he is my cousin and the one who also introduced me back to Trad. Thanks Robhunter. He said it was addictive and now I know.
I do not post much but spend alot of time on here reading the stories and the vast amount of information shared by all. I have learned so much on the site and appreciate your detication. It has already been a great year. I do not know if I can "get er done" when the big horns show up, but what ever it will be exciting.
God Bless

Congratulations and welcome to the addiction!
Awsome job congrats, I made my first Trad harvest this year also, great feeling.
Nice, congrats!
Good job. I hope to get my first this year too, after hunting with a compound for years. I met Rob this year at a shoot here in Alabama. Nice guy.
I just came in from the morning hunt! I didn't see anything this morning. When reading this first animal story with Trad equipment and your excitment it makes my day. I have yet to take my first deer with a traditional bow, so your read is encouraging. Good job! Maxx
Congratulations on your first deer with a recurve! It sounds like you're hooked! Thanks for sharing your picture and story.

Well Done!
these are the stories I like,,,, its like a rebirth into archery and age doesn't matter.
awesome 1st stick deer,, T
Thanks for all of the support and comments. Just a small way to return for what I have received in the past year from this site. The best part is the understanding of an accomplishment. If you have not tried Trad, there is no way to understand the excitement of harvesting any deer, and a doe is a real trophy with the recurve. I know the frustration when I first started and there was no place to find info like now, that is why I went to the compound. but now with a site like this all of the experiences and questions with answers are readily avalible. I started with split fingers and after reading on here I switched to 3 under, it just fit me better, and the encouragement from others to experiment and try things has been great.
Good luck to all.
Way to go cuz!!! See you in November!!
