I just wanted to say thanks for all the fellow tradgangers that have helped me. I have learned soo much on this site and today I made it happen.
I got my first ever bow kill and it was trad. With my recurve. I will get the pics up this evening and tell the story. It was awesome. Just have to get home work done with the kids and get dinner ready. I will get it on here after I get the kiddos to bed.
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,
Congrats! :clapper: I remember my first trad harvest. Next to marrying my beautiful wife and the birth of my two children, it was the fourth best day of my life!!! Well done, my friend!!!

Congrats!!! Can't wait to read this story.

Congrads...Just harvested my first two traditional kills this weekend. Was starting to wonder if I could actually pull it off. I was more excited about the little "Y" buck then my biggest with a compound!

First day on the stand and it didn't start out good. I couldn't find my stand in the dark. lol. I just sat by a tree till light and then went and found it. I had walked right by it. Well once I got on the stand I had turkey's all over the place but. I was after deer.
I had been sitting a while watching squirrle and turkey's. Then off to the right about 50yrds. I saw an ear twitch. Then I lost it. But a few minutes later here came a small doe. Came right in front of me about 30 yrds. Too long a shot for me. I'm good to 20. Then a deer I didn't see behind me and down wind blew and stomped. The doe in front froze.
Next two more big does came in with the smaller one. One about 20yrds and one at about 25. I came to fulldraw on the 20yrd doe and missed right over her back. As soon as I missed all the deer ran off and I bleeted. The doe I missed stopped and backed up a little looking around. So I put one in her at 20yrds.
She was quartering away pretty good. The shot was good. Just cut the top of the heart. But not a passthrough. The arrow stuck in the offside shoulder.
She ran off with the arrow slapping every tree around. Then it came out.
When I got down and found the arrow my zwickey delta wasn't on the glue insert. Just an arrow and the insert. She went pretty far through a pine thicket.
I trailed her forever it seemed with very little blood. It was a spot here and there. And then the blood trail stopped. I had been flagging the trail the whole way with orange tape.
I could not find 1 more drop of blood on my hands an knees. So I just looked where she came from and went 50yrds where I thought went. In a strait line. And I found her just over a small ridge. Pure luck.
But it was awesome. The arrow in the pic is not the one shot at the deer. The one I shot was missing the broadhead so I posted that one. I did find my Delta later in the shoulder bone. Just fine
Thanks again.

Thanks for all the kind words. Not sure about every one out there but do you feel bad a little. After taking an animal. I know I do. But I do understand that they need to be managed. I enjoyed every bit of the experience yesterday. I did feel bad about taking her. But I would do it agian in a minute. Its a very humbeling thing.

The opportunity to successfully harvest a game animal with Traditional Gear is very fulfilling and satisfying. Especially on a quick and clean shot.... I have not lost that humbling feeling, and when I do, I'm done hunting...

Nice shot! You may have many more bow killed deer in your future, but this one will be forever special in your mind.
