Opening day in Indiana started out uneventful for me yesterday. Fast forward to this morning with a whole different story.
I head out to my aunt's place(which she is selling :( ) with my buddy and try to decide on the way in exactly where I want to sit. I grab my Tall Tines and my Summit Viper climber and get to gett'n.
I make it to where I want to be and find a perfect poplar tree with a bramble of briars underneath that I had to clear out.

I get it all finished up and attached and do my last thing before I get into my stand; reach for my haul rope. GONE! It had apparently fallen out at the truck.

I now proceed to clunk up to where I want to be in the tree. BEAUTIFUL morning to be out! High 30's, no wind, perfect!

I get up to a beautiful symphony of life quickly getting louder all around me. At about 745 I hear a few steps in the leaves so I stand up. I look around and see what I thought at first to be a squirrel moving. After further examination what I was looking at were 4ft tall bushes. It wasn't a squirrel!
Finally a doe materializes on the forest floor following an old grown over logging trail. Then another higher up and farther forward comes to my eye.
The first doe comes out and presents a perfect shot, but I wanted to wait for the other doe who would be closer to come by. This lead doe proceeds to mill around and then move off about 5 more yards. She THEN starts to groom herself presenting a PERFECT SHOT!
Ahh!! I'm looking at this other doe who will end up closer 30yds back and then looking at the doe directly in front of me. I look a couple times and said I can do this. I focus and let my 175gr. Simmons Tigershark go.
I thought I'd shot over, but the sound of a broadhead cutting through ribcage is unmistakeable.
I get out to check a bit later. I didn't miss.

At least you didn't get up the tree and go to pull your rope up, and realize you forgot to tie it to your stand. Oops...I hate when that happens!! :knothead:
-
Let me tell you, two blades are alright! That Simmons cut through her like butter at 35 yards on the dot.(I got my rangefinder) Slight quartering away. They left a blood trail anyone could follow! Even me!!

Here's where she was standing when I shot.

What I came up to just another 35-40yds later.

Just a beautiful day. My buddy helped my drag her a little ways to the trail where I backed my truck up to get her out.

I'd always forgotten to use it, but I finally did! The knife my buddy made me out of my first bow killed buck. Monster eh?

Broadhead entrance. I think I'll be using the Simmons Tigershark more often! It's still sharp enough to shave with.

Good stuff V101! Pretty convincing if you like complete passthroughs. I do. Well done!
-
I had a bust yesterday and didn't want to wake up to go this morning so I didn't. I was almost about to say forget it with an afternoon hunt but I can't do that when there's deer to be had.
This was a spirit lifter, I don't care if im blessed with a shot, but I want to see the deer come in. Haha.
Grats on the harvest.

Matt, you look proud,... that you should be! Great thread, excellent pictures, all important stuff is included.
I'm a 2 blade fan myself.
-
Thanks all! I'd never used a two blade before and I just HAD to try that Simmons. They work as advertised. I'd always shot Snuffers or a Woodsman.
It was funny, I forgot my pocketknife when I went to the check station so I had to use the Tigershark I'd just killed her with. Cut through like butter. The check station clerk said, "Dang!" Honestly it cut better than my pocketknife would have.
With the help of my buddy I've got her all quartered out and ready to be made in to good stuff!
Oh yeah, she had a ton of fat on her! I've personally never seen that much on an early season deer.
