Hey guys and Gals, I am looking for suggestions please. I use a 4 x 8 piece of plywood behind my bag target in the back yard when I practice. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap and easy fix for preventing the field tips from sticking into the plywood if (perhaps I should say when) I miss. Perhaps something I could tack on to the plywood to prevent penetration of the arrows. Thanks for your suggestions!
Try a horse trailer mat....but they're better at absorbing an arrows momentum if they're hung so they can swing a little.
I have 3 layers of carpeting hanging free. Field points usually don't penetrate the 3rd layer. If they do, it's only a couple of inches. It won't stop a broad head, but slows it enough that only the tip sticks in the wood retaining wall 3 feet behind the carpet.
Thanks guys! Is it easy to pull the arrows out of the Carpet? need to figure out a way to hang it free, in front of the plywood and behind the bag. Appreciate it!
As long as there is a smooth transition from field point to insert, they come out easy. If I stick a 22/64 point on a 1916 shaft, the back of the point will catch and require a bit more pull. As long as the point/shaft junction is smooth, they slide right back out. I made a 2x4 frame that is hinged at one end to a retaining wall. I can swing it out of the way if I need to get something into the back yard. I put one layer on each side of the top horizontal 2/4, added another strip of 1x4 and fastened the 3rd layer to it. Not very elegant, but works for me. I'm shooting 45 - 50# bows. I would guess some of the stronger types that are shooting 65# bows might find it inadequate.
