Title: Airline lost bag-bow included
Post by: jimboby on September 30, 2011, 02:13:00 PM
I just got back from a hunt in Colorado.  At the airport terminal in Pittsburgh, I got one of two bags checked and wouldn't you know, my takedown was inside the bag that didn't arrive.  I filed a report immediately and followed up with a claim.  I saw the bag being being loaded in Durango and was told by the airline it had reached Denver but it never made it to Pittsburgh.  Any advice?

Had it happen many times.....it will most likely show up in a few days. Just be happy it did not happen on the outbound flight!

Yeah, I'd say you got lucky that they lost it on the way home and not the other way around.  I've always got my bags back without any damage when the airline "loses" them.

I am so sorry that you are being put through this anguish.

I hope that it shows up and very soon.

I know I would be going nuts having to wait.

God bless,Mudd

Yeah, that part does suck.  Will they reimburse you with money if they don't return your bag?

This is why I DROVE from Maine to Florida a few weeks back to hunt, instead of flying. NO WAY will I risk one of my recurves being, lost, stolen or banged around.
Good luck, I hope you get everything back in A-1 condition.

I had the same thing happen with my back pack a few weeks ago coming back from Colorado. Flew out of Durango on Frontier airlines to Denver and US Airways after that. My pack was delivered 2 days later to my door step no worse for the wear. Keep the faith and patience.

Had a similar problem at Pitt a few weeks ago...
A few items "missing" out of my bag... They suggested that maybe I forgot to pack them..

Is it possible to take a 3pc takedown as part of your carry on luggage. I never fly anywhere, so I'm just asking?

Sorry Dave, don't believe that would be allowed. On the front end of hunts(flights), I would suggest mailing prior to departure. Better to be safe than sorry. Underwear, socks, etc. can be replaced in most areas, bows and arrows not so easily.

Good news! I got my bag back today.  Got a call from the airline yesterday that it had arrived in Durango and was awaiting my pickup(It was supposed to go to Pittsburgh).  Anyway, a big thank you to A.S for help in trying to locate my stuff.  Thanks, Allen, hope I can return the favor someday.

These stories give me the willies! I just man-handled a box I made double walled with all my hunting clothes, take down, boots, calls, etc ad naseum into it and ships tomorrow for a hunt on the 19th.

Firt time shipping ahead... and if they loose this, I'll be hunting in my skivvies both there and back home... Not a seasoned traveler like some here...so this is almost like an African Safarri to ole me!

Glad you got your gear...geeze... that was a long wait! Like many said...very good it was on the return, not on the trip out! Yikes!

No. Its a weapon, so that makes the answer an absolute "no".

Jim, I just got your voice mail early this morning.

I'm glad they finally found it for you!   :bigsmyl:    Like I said, it was probably laying in a corner somewhere, just needed someone to take 10 minutes to research it.

I was glad to help...even though I wasn't much help!!   :biglaugh:

Glad they found your bow for you. This is the reason I don't fly anywhere anymore though.

I have my full namne and address & cell phone # in about 10 different locations on my bags,,, what hurts is you can't lock them anymore.

believe it or not this whole airport super security thing that puts us all in a bad mood actually helped us where even the baggage handlers and loaders all are being watched by cameras at every angle even in the cargo areas by the TSA if someone is seen going into a bag they are on them in seconds.

Logan airport here in Boston was notorius for stuff missing from bags and showing up at the local flea markets where the handlers where the ones taking everything. .

You can carry on your bow, just not the arrows. [Take down that is]. The airline I frequent will not replace it if lost.
