yip.........Me too...........
yep, got me too.
Pretty sure that's what we call a puffball around here. Haven't eaten one for a long time, but we used to slice them about 1/2-inch thick, dip the slices in a milk/beaten egg mixture and fry them. Yum. Yum.
Yum Yum for sure!!
Yeah , I did a little internet research and pretty sure it's a puffball, I've never seen them this big in the woods, spotted it about 60 yards away and thought it was a piece of white plastic . Been eating "chicken -of -the-woods" last 2 weeks...don't know if I can talk her into another one ??
What do you think of the chicken-of-the-woods, or sulphur shelf? I liked the taste of some I just picked but I found the texture to be a bit like styrofoam. Maybe I didn't cook them long enough, or maybe they were too mature? They looked good, nice bright color and firm flesh, who knows? I have my eye out for some hen-of-the-woods.
it's firm but tasty, try the outer edges.Could also be a little old.
I like the flavor but your right the texture is a little strange. The younger the better though.
I drove a young guy home from a local State Park recently where he had been 'shrooming. He had one he called a "Hen of the Woods". That puppy was huge! It filled his entire medium sized backpack, must have topped 10 pounds.
We get alot of them up here. Usually when we fall turkey hunt we also mushroom hunt. Havent had a Puffball in years but im always looking for one to refresh my taste. I heard Hen of the Woods is really good too may have to give it a go.
i have found puffballs as big as basket balls, and i been keeping my eyes open for some hen-o-the woods but were kinda dry around here so i dont think its gonna be much for shrooms this fall.
