sic'em archers!
Good hunting!
Be safe!!!!!!!
God bless,Mudd
Good luck too all of you Illinois hunters. I was born in Danville, When I was a kid there wasn't a Whitetail to be seen. Now look at the monsters coming out of Southern Illinois. Shoot straight and connect on one of those monsters.
Can't wait to see the Illinois brutes. Good luck guys.
wax your string, edge your broadheads and enjoy. I will limp out there tomorrow to spend time with nephew and brother. May the spirit of past hunters shine on you
Like a kid at Christmas I tell you...got a couple of big uns' living in places I cant hunt, one of which just looks photoshopped. He's 6 1/2 years old, and I have pics of him for 3 years now. I "almost" closed the deal last year but a smart old doe ruined me.

The other is a "house" buck that is 4 1/2 years old. He's the opposite of the above buck. Narrow and gnarly...I love him and will gladly kill him as I don't have the luxury of many acres to manage. A hundred acre buck as I call him.

Post some pics or stories of the bucks you are hunting. Would love to hear about them!
Good luck to all in the Land of Lincoln !!! had the privledge of getting to hunt there a few years and I tell you, compared to what we have in TN I think ILL is the " Holy Land " !!! We might get a chance to come up late season and hunt some does ? Saving $$$ for future buck tags now. It is not only quality but quantity in ILL too.
Bruce, when you find this thread good luck to you and Marilyn bud ! If we do make it up we gotta share a cobbler and ice cream at Dolly's ! :coffee:
And Brothers, either slip a safety harness on, or keep your feet on the ground, PLEASE!!!
Good luck to all!
Good luck, boys.
Sitting this one out, but I can't wait to see the pictures and read the stories!
Pat
I'm packed and ready for 2 days of bow hunting. Good luck and hunt safe !
Heading up today and will be in the woods in the morning. Got 4 stands and 2 trail cams to setup and get ready for the return trip in Nov, but plan on shooting a couple of does and hopefully seeing some good bucks. Crops are still in but should be out sometime this month, may make another trip up after they cut if possible.
Looks like absolutely some great weather and can't wait to get back up there, see my good friends and enjoy some quality time!
Good luck and safe hunting to everybody. Corn is still up behind my place and don't have anything but small bucks, does, fawns and yrlings on my trail cam. However, did see a real good buck walk across the road and jump fence the other day while I was shooting in the yd.
Going to hunt over some feeding sign, red oak acorns and fresh rubs in the morning.
Yep red oak acorns are my early season source and usually do very well around them. Good luck

Look forward to it but Dolly's is closed....
I'm going to give it a whirl Saturday morning myself, opening day, just to get out and say I did it! It'd sure be great to get a nice deer on opening day!
Archie
I passed this buck up last year and now he looks even better this year. I'm sure his neck and body are much more bulky now. Mike

Pat
well, i was heading out and my dad needed me, so my opener be later, nephew got a doe where i told him where to sit
Lucked out on this doe opening morn, in Shawnee. Had 4 different little spikes, 4's, etc. come in and feed on the reds and white oaks didn't want to shoot them and never did see a doe till I got down and was getting my stuff together and she came trotting in to the acorns. I kneeled down and when she got what turned out to be 20 steps and behind a big oak I drew on her and shot as she came out. Went about 60yds. with good blood. Simmons Interceptor hit heart and then the off lower shoulder leg joint. Quinn Stallion 48lbs.
I had a trail cam at the spot I'd put up less than 2wks ago and when I got home and looked at the card it had 420pics. About 5 different bucks, but no big ones. Two are about 110" and the rest all skippers.
Lots of different doe and yrlings.
There's about a 100acre standing corn field about 250yds from this spot..but the acorns are really hitting the ground and they are tearing them up all around this area.

I had to work yesterday morning but got out in the pm. I missed a turkey! Shot over her head about 2"
Had 2 barred owls land beneath me. A good sit.
Got out yesterday and today. Yesterday was passes, some does, one 150 class 10, too far, and some wanna be bucks. Today was does. I was lazy and did not feel like cut, gut and drag....
We'll see what next week brings...
Well done, Hoyt! Congrats and good luck to all.
Awesome shot! I am hunting my ghost and the deer sightings are tough right now. I think I better find some oaks :) Good luck everyone!
Nice shooting Hoyt !!!
