What finish gives the glossy thick coating I see on arrows? Can you get the finish only dipping or with spray on finishes as well? Gasket lac is white, yellow or clear, but what do they look like dry?
High gloss wipe on poly works with about 4-6 coats.
Any of the common glossy products will give you a deep finish if you use enough coats..
Dip/wipe.. steel wool, dip/wipe... steel wool 4 to 6 coats works for me..
I use Parks Wood Floor finish (bought at Home Depot). A buddy, Fish N Chicks, came over last week a made a set using my product and compared it to his poly wipe on and told me there is no comparison. I do 3 dipped coats with Parks and wait 24 hrs between coats.
I'm not claiming that poly wipe on is a bad product, I'm just saying in my opinion (others as well) Parks is a thicker more durable product.
A lot of people are using gasket lacquer,Mike at The Nocking Point sells it.The fastest drying finish out there.
I used gasket lacquer from 3Rivers on the below arrow. I have more pics, but this one shows the shine. Clear shines up pretty well, but don't put on too many coats...white is pretty dull, but it's bright.
One thing to know before you use this stuff is that your point end will dull out quickly if you shoot into foam targets a lot. The heat from the friction will dull the shine.
I now use Daly's Profin now, but don't have any pics. I can get the same shine if desired and it holds up to the friction and moisture much better than gasket lacquer.
It's all about what you want...gasket lacquer is quick and easy, but the Profin holds up better.

What MO Bow said X 10 ! Daly's Profin is awesome product and if you are glueing feathers on with Duco cement the Duco will melt right down into the Daly's and you cannot even see the glue line. I use fletch tape now and a dot of Duco fore and aft on the feather for insurance. Bought a quart of Dalys direct from them @ $34 and half of the cost is the haz mat shipping. Quart should do 8-10 dozen easy. I use 3 coats dipped. Learn all this from snag, one of the best arrow builders on here IMHO !
And if you go to Daly's website, you cna search by state for stores that sell it. You may get lucky and have a dealer near you.
They have it here in Juneau, so I don't have to pay ridiculous shipping prices like everything else.
thanks guys
If you have a way to unload the excess, I know where you can get 4 gallon for $165 shipped. ($118 + s/h)

How do you dip with Daly's?
Do you use a dipper tube with gasket, or is there another way?
Daly's is a really good consistancy right from the can. I make my own dipping tubes from PVC. It will sheet off the shaft really nicely. Like NoCams says the Duco will "weld" right into the finish for a perfect fit and finish.
The gasket lacquer on the 3Rivers arrows flakes off after awhile. It lasts about three years, then flakes off.
