Title: Effective Draw Weight
Post by: matts2 on September 28, 2011, 12:42:00 PM
I have a couple bows I want to hunt deer with this year.  One is around 45#.  I know it will work, but how well will 45# work?  With a real sharp cut on contact head, will it still go all the way thru?

Yup,if you place it correctly.

Assuming proper flight etc, as well as shooting at least 10 grains per pound, I would wager if no major bones are involved you should poke through, keeping shots under 20 yards will really help.

Yes, I had the tip of my BH poke through the other side on my first deer. It wa a 45# Grizzly and I probably only drew to ~35# at 5 yds it did a number on that doe.

Thanks for the info.  I figured it would be fine, just wanted to make sure before I took it up in a tree.
