just acquired a 1972 super kodiak and was wondering what a recommended brace height range would be for this bow. also, bow has a slight limb twist, can this be fixed?
thnx in advance
1. I believe between 7 1/2-8 1/2. (not 100%)
2. Yes...how...not positive on the method.
Scroll down to the trad history collecting forum for lots of Bear bow information... Try twisting the limb to straighten it,has worked for me..
All of my vintage Bear recurves have liked a brace of at least 8".
I have a 71 S/K and I use a brace height of 8 1/4". For my bow this seems to be the "sweet spot". As for a twisted limb try steaming the limb and then twisting in opposite direction. This may solve the problem just don't over do it. Good luck.

i have a 67 and i shoot 7 inches from the back of the shelf. I'm assuming you guys measure from throat of the grip?
The best brace height is where the bow shoots the best.
Seriously, brace heights are just reccomendations. You need to find an arrow that shoots well and play with brace height until everything clicks. I'd start around 7", 7 1/4" and move up from there until things quiet down and she sings for you.
As for the twist, I've straightened a few Bears out by using hot water from the bath tap. Get the water running hot, turn on the cold water in the sink, run the hot water from the tub over the limb for maybe 30 seconds, torque it the opposite of the twist by hand ( and go past center, it will spring back ), then hold that position while running the cold sink water over the limb until you think it's cooled down. Release, string and see if you need to do it again.
My '72 SK likes it at 8.25" also
I just bought a 76 SK from my buddy. It loves it at 8 3/8. Anything under that, it sounds like a .22 going off.
thnx for ur help guys
My first "real" hunting recurve was a 1973 one piece 60", 40# @ 28" Super Kodiak and the recommended brace height for it was 8"-9".
Try 8 1/4. That will most likely work fine.
