have a Phil Silva Red Oak Bow, with Linen Backing. Not Impressed with the Linen, Any Other Flexible Backing Ideas or Suggestions?? Not gonna Hunt with it, just Plunking around out back. ALL Help Appreciated!! :archer:
Hey Shakes, is it a board bow? I've backed them with brown paper bags before and that worked out okay. Just opened up a grocery bag and traced the limbs out. I did two layers and overlapped the top and bottom limbs at the handle. Not sure how much protection it offered but, as far as I know the bows are still together anyway. Tried Sinew once, but I'm pretty sure that I over did it and it compressed the belly. Never have done a stave Red Oak bow.
Why not try snake skins?
3Rivers sell them I think for about $60 a pair.
What don't you like about the linen backing. Linen is very strong and will hold down splinters as well as any other backing. If you think it is ugly, paint it or decorate it somehow...like adding skins or printed paper.
The First Bow I Tried with the Linen, Carefully Drawing, went POP in my Hands!! :scared: I didnt have it Drawn 1/2 way to what I call Anchor. I have a 27" Draw, so it wasnt far!
I Thought about Soaking it in TRU-OIL , then Trying Again, but I wanted to see what the General Opinion with the "Linen vs Other Backing" First. I have some Slide-On Snake Skins, for Fall Camo, I might try that First. They fit Pretty Tight, kinda like "Bows Hose"!! :goldtooth:
I considered the Brown Paper, but then I have some "Funky" Duct Tape the sell for "Hip Postage", its Purple Tiger Stripes I believe. reminded me of Ted Nugent!! The MotorCity MadMan!! My 3 Y.O. GrandDaughter wants to do her WHOLE Room in it...... She LOVES The Stuff! Might give that a Shot, sound do-able?? :dunno: THANK YOU FOR THE INFO GUYS!!
