Details Please
Hey yall , you know what the Arkansas Razorbaks and Sandcastles have in common ? They both do just fine till the "Tide Rolls In" ........ok, lets see pics and hear the story !
:campfire:
trying to type the story but my internet keeps messing up! roll tide lol
WHAT A GREAT OPENING DAY!!!!!! i got up at 3:30am...yeah 3:30.. 3 hours before sun rise. i was so excited. theres nothing like opening day! i made breakfast and coffee woke up a buddy and my cousin! its opening day GET UP! they were draggin! pffffffffff wheely shooters lol!
:campfire: :archer:
over breakfast we talked about where we were going to hunt. and how long we were going to stay out. zach decided he wanted to go to a stand called joshs stand and matt decided he was going to take his climber and go by the new cut throught road and climb on a white oak flat. I decided i was going to the LONGBOW STAND!! oh yea the long bow stand! we renamed it last year after i killed the 8pt in my avatar out of it!
so at 5:15 im sitting in my tree. yes 5:15 thats 1 hour and 30 min before sunrise! well its opening day! a itlle after 6 i hear matt and zachs 4 wheelers crank up... as the sound of their mufflers disapeared in the distance i said a quick prayer for them to be safe and i wished them luck
at 6:15 i had a barred owl light in the tree beside me. he gave out a few loud hoots. WHO COOKS FOR YOU!!! WHO COOKS FOR YOU ALL he cried. man i excpected to hear a turkey gobble. wait its fall not spring John.... thats the turkey hunter in me. sending chills down my spine. i think i was a turkey in a past life.... but back to the deer! ITS OPENING DAY!!
6:30 the squirls wake up. man i forgot how loud they can be. fussing and fighting and squeeking at eachother. for the next 45 min i proceeded to think every sound those squirls made were deer hoofs crunching leafs. but i thanked them for knocking all those white oaks down around my tree! :)
7:10 i hear a stick pop! now where talking! that was not a squirl! that was a deer! i look over my shoulder and i see a 1 1/2 6pt walking right to me! i turn my camera on and decide to get some video of him... not going to shoot this guy i am waitng on his older brother or daddy or older cousin or momma or granny or just a doe!
he eats a few acorns and slips past me.
7:25 i hear another stick pop....from the same way that buck came from. i turn look over my shoulder and i see 2 does headed right to the tree... oh yea im going to shoot one of these girls. the 1st doe get to 5 yards. stops in a scrape and starts licking a branch. im trying to focus the camera on her and then get drawn back.. wait she take a step. wait shes not in the cam. im about to draw and she trotts off to my right just out of bow range. i glance at the other doe behind her... she is looking right at me! DANG IT SHE HAS PICKED ME OUT... sometimes i forget im hunting and not filming it get caught up trying to get things on film and i forget to just HUNT! well she takes one leap and stops quarting away about 25 yards
i picked a spot and draw my bow and released a arrow! PERFECT SHOT! she runs off crashing into trees and disapears over the ridge. i look over and the other doe runs right at me. i nock a arrow she stops 20 yards i draw and forget to pick a spot and sail one over her back! oh well i missed .( we can shoot 3 does a day in this county)
after they ran off i gave thanks to our creator and prayed that my arrow hit its mark and did its job. i waited about 45 min and got down. i walked over the ridge and there she was. infact my arrow did do its job.
this was my 1st deer with a wooden arrow. prob will never shoot a carbon arrow out of it again. i like woodies
Congrats on the doe! Now where are the pics?
