i WAS WONDERING HOW MANY OF YOU CHASE DEER WITH CANOES. IT WOULD BE COOL TO SEE SOME PICS ALSO.
I tried a couple times but they proved to be very unstable in my treestand.

I might as well Swim to what I want to Hit, Cause I am gonna End Up Wet Anyway!! :scared: I cant Swim either, so the Critters are Safe From Me!! :goldtooth:
A long time ago my dad and I use to hunt from a canoe, just float'n down the creek. We'd get some game like that, but never shot a deer from the water, ducks, rabbits, squirels, phesants, but never a deer.
I have a 16' cedar strip canoe that needs a little work done to it, that I need to get at, so I can start using it again. I like to throw a little fly fish'n in with an October deer hunt, nothing better !
Jerald
used to float a river and get squirrels and a few waterfowl.. saw a couple deer... but it worked better to get to some stands on the edges of swamps... Sorta like a ATV is used these days...
Never Deer or in a Canoe....
Butt I have Hunter beaver from a small Boat.
And it's a blast....
Well actual we hunted Beaver, Racoon, Opposum and Muskrat from the Boat....
I don't know about hunting from it, but this year I hope to canoe to an otherwise inaccessible spot make camp and hunt for a few days. River, Canoe, Tent, Campfire, Bow, and maybe a Deer; it doesn't get much better.
weasle - I also duck hunt and usually hunt from my kayak- but I have also used it to get to some good bowhuntin' spots on occasion

Built it from plans.
Dang nice peice of wood ! You make that ?
Looks like it would flat scoot across some water ! It looks like it has a bit of a keel on it, for the lakes.
Dang good look'n canoe, Native Craft !

Kip- for many years I was a scuba instructor and ran dive boats- thus the "Capt." I still have a USCG 500ton Masters ticket (which I haven't used in many years)
The Texas Water Safari and marathon river racing is an addiction for us crazy river rats down here in Texas.

I'm also an avid saltwater/coastal kayak fisherman.

I usa a canoe to float for ducks alot (with a gun), but not as much for deer with a bow. Do use it to get to hard to access places for deer though.
I've only hunted a few times, none succesfully, with trad gear from canoes. Have used it to access a couple of great spots and used muzzleloader, rifle and compound to account for at least 10 deer and 2 pigs that I can remember. Have not taken shots from the canoe though, although it is legal if under paddle power here in GA. I dont' have any digital photos, may try to scan a couple if I can find them. Cheers.
I've hunted deer, tapir, red baboons, fish and various other game in my Langford canoe...only way to get to the game on some of the river/creeks in Suriname.
CaptJack I spent a weekend on a dive boat out of Freeport Tex. over the Flower Gardens not too long ago.Very nice trip.Back on topic some of my most enjoyable hunting trips have been with a canoe, tent and a buddy kinda of roughing it but have more gear than a backpack.Kip
Forgot to add I have noticed your pics. for a couple of years they are good.Kip
just got my 14 1/2 ft canoe last year.....took it out once to hunt deer but the wind was too much to enjoy the hunt. I look forward to using this year !
while not a true canoe (its a pirogue), this here is going to be my next big project...

the plans are free and the materials are cheaper than buying a used canoe.

Thanks, Jerald. I'm proud of it, do doubt.
It took me about 4 free weekends to build it and I've got about $200 in it including the marine-grade okoume plywood, epoxy, and fiberglass. It weighs approx. 60 lbs. and is stable enough to stand up in and cast a rod for fish. It's flat-bottomed except for a little bit of chine at the waterline and I added a 1/2" keel to it because without it it'll swap ends with ya in a strong wind.
