I thought folks here would be interested in seeing the knife that Mike Stenstrom (Maineac) built for me when I ended up being the high bidder in the St. Jude auction for the custom knife he donated. Mike is a great guy who was my roomie at the hotel in Austin and then one of my hunting companions while at the wonderful Solana Ranch hunt. Mike wanted to make me a knife I would use on many of my hunts and actually carry in the field. He asked if I had any special wood requests, so I asked my friend Gregg Coffey if he could send Mike some of the Koa wood that Gregg used in making the risers in two of my beautiful Shrew Classic Hunters, and made the veneers from on one of those bows. Gregg sent the Koa, and Mike used that wood and some ebony to build a knife that is a great companion to the Shrews (as well as other bows I own). Here are some pictures of the bows with the knife Mike built. Many thanks to Mike, Gregg, and also my buddy Ron LaClair who came up with the original Shrew design.

Beautiful combo Allan.
A fine knife to go with those beautiful Shrew bows. :notworthy:

Great combos......I really like nice Koa wood.
Very nice indeed!
Very nice.
Nice combo! That's a good looking blade. Now you need a big pig sticker.
I actually did get a larger knife in the St. Jude auction too -- the collaboration knife that Lin Rhea, Doug Campbell, and Karl Andersen built with the sheath made by Robin Severe. It is an amazing knife that will be more of a show piece than a working knife like the Koa and ebony Damascus knife that Mike built. I can definitely say that I don't intend to be sticking any live pigs with my knives, although Mick Baker down in Oz used one of my Stic knives to finish off the boar I shot there in June. I'm just not as "crazy" as Mick. The little Koa knife is going to be a great carry knife that will work very well for using on animals that have already expired from a (hopefully) well-placed arrow.

WOW,WOW,WOW!!!
Wow, that is gorgeous!!!
So close enough to the perfect knife you can't tell if you're coming or going! This is a great knife! Thanks for the pix.
That knife looks so good, a guy might want to get a bow built to match it! (If he didn't already have them)
Thats a Beauty Allan! perfect size too.

How many Shrews? Well, let's just say I quit counting at a dozen. Actually, I think I have 13 now, plus more on order, but I truly have not tried to keep count. I am pleased to have the beautiful knife from Mike with Koa from the actual board that was used to make the bows in the pictures. It is the first time I have ever had that, although I have seen others here on TradGang who did the same thing.
