John won't be able to hunt again this year due to health issues. Yesterday I stopped over John's house; he needed a four inch step made to make it easier for him to get in and out of his front door. After I took care of that, John and I talked about this year's hunting season, and on my way home I had this idea:
What if I send out some of John's cedar arrows to 3 Tradgang members and they use the arrows in an attempt to harvest game of their choice with the promise that they will call John and relay the story of the hunt. John's arrows are cut 27 ½" B.O.P tapered cedar and weigh around 520 grn with Magnus 2 blade heads and are spined at 55lbs.
If you need to, you can modify the arrow to fit your set up, or if you don't get a chance to use it, we could pass it to another Tradganger. I'm still working out the details on this; let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Luke
yes yes yes great idea shareing this arrow with other trad members this is the first year im going all trad would definitly like to try this arrow out.
ABSOLUTELY! Please let me know if this idea comes to fruition. I would love to down a BC mountain goat with one of John's arrows.
We must all remember how lucky we are when we can hunt. Feel real bad for John, I will say a prayer that next year he will be back in action and his best year ever.
Man, I would love to have one of his arrows. But i have to admit i will only get to hunt a short time this season and then will be traveling. I wish everyone luck who hunts with one of John's arrows. I spent several amazing hours with him at Denton in 2008. He is an incredible man.

I met John at Cloverdale a few years ago. He signed my son's ramin bow. I would be honored to hunt with one of his arrows.
One of those would fly great out of the 1st selfbow I built....never killed anything with it yet....I've been meaning to hunt with it for years...maybe this is the time.
I'm tempted to jump all over this since I have one of John's old BW longbows, but I haven't shot it in two years, so I will watch from the sidelines.
Cool idea. I got to spend some time with John down in Texas on the 1st ATHA hunt. Really enjoyed that. Will look forward to stories from this.
Hey, great idea. Please say "Hi" to John for me. You've reminded me too...I need to give him a call. Man, life goes by fast, I haven't seen John in probably 3 years now. He is a class act all the way.
The first time my wife met him she said "Wow, you're a handsome guy!" John really started smiling then! Then she said "You look like Fred Bear!"...boy that let the air out! I don't know where she came up with that, but it was priceless.
He is truly and inspiration.
Ryan
oh cmon ryan. Fred Bear. Somebody better get their eyes checked!!! But, I bet you are as good of a shot as Fred and probably just as nice!!!
Guys, thanks for all the interest in this.
Luke
I have a self nocked arrow that John signed and gave to me on a hawg hunt in Texas a few years ago. I've been thinking about using it ever since but have the fear of breaking or losing. I bet if i asked him, John would tell me to "use it and make me proud"....

Thats a great pic, nice bird and beautiful arrow.
A "BIG" YES YES YES !!!!! Have not seen John in a long time. Need to stop up and see him. John and I hunted Bear in Canada back in the 80's. We did a bunch of shows for the Original PCBA I started. What a great time we had ! God bless that wonderful man..He see's more than most of us ! sincerly ...Jeff ! p.s Boy do John and Me have some funny stories !
I would be honored as well to hunt with one of his arrows.
Wonderful idea. Arrows are too short for me, so I'll just send good thoughts to those who get the chance to use them.
Joekeith: Thanks for getting the pic to work.
Thats the arrow I got from John last year for spring turkey.
I would be proud to use one of his arrows this fall.
I have never had the honor of meeting John, but listening to the folks that have I would be honored to use one of his arrows. I have a game rich lease this year and nothing would be better than to start out the season using one of Johns arrows for the first game taken there and relay the story back.
ill shoot one they will be perfect for me
I have Johns Old fishing Bow. It is a 1959 Bear Polar.Maybe I could get it field ready and hunt it. I would need to install an over draw if I wanted to use Johns arrows tho. If somebody could use the bow and Arrow combo let me know. It seemsd the bow is 40-45 #'s I will check it out after super. John is a heck of a nice guy. I hope he is feeling better. Prayers sent for him.
CTT
Chuck: that's sounds like a good idea. I know the bow that you're referring to .Ill get with you after dinner
Thanks Luke
Well this looks like it's going to happen. I been really busy around here with my wife out of town and Me working and running the kids to all there after school activities and such .I should be able to finish this thing up by next week and contact everyone that I can send an arrow to
Thanks
LUKE
great i hope im in the frawing to get one
Ill try one to take my first trad deer
I let my daughter pick the Tradganger's that will receive one of John's arrows and I think I've heard back from every one. She picked four in all, including the guy wearing the white fur coat in his picture. Don't worry Terry I told her you don't always dress like that.
Thanks
Luke
Congratulations to the winners. The arrows were too short for me. I met John at ETAR a number of years ago. I wanted to get his autograph on the Traditional Bowhunter issue with a feature on him. At the time I felt awkward in asking a blind man for his autograph-so I didn't. In hindsight, I made a huge mistake, he wouldn't have been offended and I'd have a treasured memory.
just letting everyone know i recieved one of the arrows this morning. i am going to call mr rook after work and let him know i got it!

Can someone tell me how to stretch one to 30 1/2"?
John: I have no doubt you're going to be successful with that arrow .I'm glade it shot so well for you.
