Title: The innocents of a first time deer hunter
Post by: 23feetupandhappy on September 21, 2011, 02:07:00 PM
Iv been helping a fellow coworker get into shooting some trad equipment over the last couple of years and he decided that he wanted to try to hunt this year.  Being an avid fisherman and all around outdoorsman Trad fits well with who he is but he hasnt ever hunted anything bigger than a rabbit.  I have hunted a special park hunt the last several years with a fellow Trad Ganger and asked if he would like to join our hunt this year, he said he would and so we begain the necessary steps to get him ready.
Tues. evening was the proficance test that is held every year for whom ever wants to participate in this hunt and you have to shoot 3 arrows at 10, 15, and 20 yards at a 3D deer target (your allowed 2 misses out of the kill zone).
He got there before I did and passed with only missing the kill zone once at 20 yards    :archer:

I used to hunt on a farm and when I shot a deer the farmer would ask me for the liver, the heart and where I gutted it. If it was a buck he would go straight out to get the testicles. Heart is good, if cooked right liver is not bad, but I cringe just thinking about cutting out the testies. Don't be looking to see how big they are on the deer you are shooting at. I shot off an antler once because a drop tine caught my eye.
