Title: Lookin 4 Hogs in Texas Panhandle/Eastern New Mexico
Post by: NativeHunter on September 21, 2011, 01:38:00 PM
I'm going to visit the wifes family over Christmas break and would like to try some hog hunting. We will be right along the border in Portales. Located about 90 miles to the SW of Amarillo and 90 Miles NW of Lubbock. Does anyone know of any areas I can start looking?

Not much in that area on the Texas side as far as public land that would be open for hogs at that time. There are hogs on the staked plains but not near the numbers as there are a bit to the east on rivers draining the caprock escarpment. I might be able to help you out if you are willing to travel to the southeastern panhandle.

Not sure there are any Javelina that far North, but I could be wrong. I was stationed in Clovis at Cannon AFB in '95-'97. Don't remember seeing either, but wasn't looking for them back then. I heard the hogs have spread to the Lubbock area though. Where exactly are you talking snakewood3? Not sure how much time the wife will let me steal away from the family!
