Last night while I was shooting my bow I was thinking just how good of a year I had on elk. Yea I never even sent a arrow off toward an elk but I did have action almost eveyday out. Most of the hunt was spent close to home on a anybull unit that is not noted for it's high success on elk. One weekend I did travel north to help a friend on his limited entry elk hunt, which we did see a ton of elk. I have been working 60+ hrs a week only being able to hunt sundays and mondays with maybe an hour or so after work. Even with the limited time it seemed I could always get close on the elk. I had mutiple encountes under 60 yards with bulls, even thou I would have taken a cow happly. I seen bear, cougar, deer, elk, and a ton of small game(exept grouse!). I heard more bugles than I have ever listen to on this unit and only seen a few hunters in my area. My big game hunting is most likely over for the year but I still feel real good about my time spent chasing elk around.
As a new Utah'an that is cool to hear. I had my best Elk encounter ever too with snag down in Manti.
Guess I have all year to sort out Utah's regs so I'll be into it next year.
Your deer season is over to or you just don't have time to get out?? I hope that's not the case, but if it is, sounds like you had a good time!
Yea the deer and elk season is over for the most part. But I know Jimmy didn't get a deer tag this year. Glad you got into elk. Mine wasn't so good, but I was glad to get out. I still have a long awaited KS hunt in Nov to fill the freezer, also drew my late season cow elk tag :) Looks like in need to come down and tie a rope to you Jimmy :)
lots more to it than killing! id say with your limited time and amount of elk ya saw, that was one heck of a year man!!!!
