I just got in some new veneer which is absolutely beautiful! I've got 7-8 planks, all have some dark and all have great figure. Here are some pictures of the first bow I made with it.

You gotta be kidding. That is 1 of the most beautiful bows I have ever laid eyes on, even if it is just a picture. Great work. :notworthy: :clapper:
Those veneers are awesome, really like that look.
Awesome bow and bull - love how dark those antlers are. Was his eye poked out? It looks like his left eye is missing in the picture?
Bob Urban

WOW

Is the bow in the picture a Wolverine, Slinx or Peregrine?
Looks like an s-lynx!
Congrats Abe on a great bull! As far as the bow....just another perfect piece of your gift...no big deal! Ryan
Wow! As soon as I think I'm over myrtle I see another extremely unique piece that lights the fire again. It seems the color/pattern variations in myrtle are endless. Beautiful animal and oustanding bow! Congrats sir. Don't overcook those backstraps!

Awesome bow and veneers, nice bull as well.Congrats!
Here are some veneers I have cut. They are just cut on the bandsaw for now and each one you see is at least a set of 4 which would do a bow. The center 3 which look similiar are the same as my bow. They tend to get darker with glue under the glass. One set of the center ones is spoken for.
Raging Water pick a set and send a deposit.
The bow in the picture is an SLynx. The riser is marblewood and wenge. the antler is moose. The Slynx is a 60" bow.
Ther is a lot a figure in all the sets. Some just have more color variation

Beautiful bow Abe! And a very nice bull!
Thanks Everyone.
Mo I thought a picture was worth a thousand words. Thats more writing then I've done ? Well I can't remember when the last time was. Now if you were to order I might just get inspired.
Thanks Randy. Have you been out yet?
Abe
Soon, Abe, Soon. My 50th birthday present to me!!!

Thanks Onestringer
With your wraps on the arrow I had no problem seeing the arrow.
Abe
You just had to show me those veneers didn't you. Well guy's, I ordered ANOTHER Wolverine today. That makes it #14 in the cari-bow longbow collection. Great elk Abe, you defiantly deserved him. I can't wait to start on the mount. The cape is on it's way to the tannery monday !!
Outstanding bow
The temptation is getting stronger to try one of those slynx, beautiful bow. Darren, you got it bad but i could think of worse addictions to have other than bows.Abe, congrats on a great elk. That elk is a brute.
Come over anytime JP, I'm sure I can find an Slynx here you can try out........lol
For: MO and the others.
Not much of a story teller or writer for that matter.
Zack, my son and I got drawn for a good area for elk. Only a few tags available. We had decided we needed 2 weeks and planned for that. It was hot all the first week (85-90). We heard and got into elk right from the start. On the fourth morning we heard a group of four bulls sounding off with a few that sounded like real good ones. We tried to canoe to what we thought was the herd bull but the slough was so thick that we just couldn't make head way. Now we had to walk around and see if we could catch up with them. As we were going around this slough we heard a bull real close but we thought he was down wind so never played much attention to him. The wind was very calm which may have played a factor in the outcome. When we got to the tip of the slough things looked good for a set up so I set Zach up ahead and Tina and myself stayed back to call. I cow called and got a response from the bull we past and he was only about a 100 yds away. The volume of those 45 gallon drum lungs we as callers just can't duplicate. I responded with my own bugle along with some cow calls directed up wind and away from me. I could hear him move toward me and then stand and listen. I cow called again in the same direction. I moved to a small dried out grassy slough or wet spot which we refer to as salad bowls. It was about 20 yds wide and about 50 yds long. I was close to the middle and on the opposite side than the bull. I had settled into just a small shadowed area when I heard the bull advancing. He came to the bowl right across from me, but 6 feet inside the heavy bush. I could see the antlers and he was looking for the cows off to my left. His head was behind a big poplar so he couldn't see me. I stayed silent as he looked for the cows. When no cows appeared I think he decided to check the wind for the cows. He turned right and came into the salad bowl but straight on; but as soon as he got to the bottom he turned right and was broadside, walking to my right which would take him down wind. He was in the open and never seen me draw and only reacted when the arrow hit.He lurched forward and went about 40 yds as I was bugling as hard as I could along with some cow calls. He stopped and turned to see if the bull was following him. When no bull appeared he slowly walked another 25 yds to my left and away. I could mostly just see the tops of antlers as he went and now he was just out of sight when we all heard a loud crash. We waited 15-20 minutes and slowly advanced. When I finally seen him he looked much bigger then when I seen him standing with head behind the poplar. It was probably a good thing I didn't know how big he really was.
The bow I used was a SLynx 54#@28".
The arrow was a Beamen 400's with brass inserts.
The broadhead was the Tuffhead 225 grains.
Total arrow weight is 685 grains.
Distance of shot 18 yds.
Total distance traveled after hit 65-70yds.
Abe
Abe,great job on depicting the hunt. I can see it all happening in my minds eye. And to have this all unfold along with your kids along, how cool is that.
I can relate about the extreme heat,we were out chasing Wapiti also but not with the same outcome as your team. Ah well, always next year. Congrats again.
Mo
Beautiful bull and even more beautiful bow. Congrats Abe!

That's amazing. I just tried to make some veneers out of Laural burl for a guy, but it just crumbled when I tried to pick it up. So needless to say it wouldn't work. I guess Murtyl burl works better.
Absolutely the most beautiful of a bow that I've seen in a while! Congrats on the elk too!
I like it!!
