do you use face paint or a camo net
A head net has not caused me a problem yet.
war paint. i like eing able to come to the exact same spot everytime for anchor with nothing between my hand and my face
There's no option for "neither"...
Hard to beat Spandoflauge!
I use both....and sometimes neither....
I selected face paint, because if I could only use one, that would be my preferance. However, I use a net more often than I do face paint due to the ease of removal. I do not like the sound damping qualities of a camo net. I am hard of hearing and need as little interferance as I can get. When I don't have to worry about getting all the paint out of my ears, eyes, hair, etc, for the rest of the day, I use paint of various sorts. Still haven't found any that I REALLY like, so I settle on the old army compacs most of the time.
I always wear a hat, so for the past five or six years I've worn a 3/4 camo face net while hunting. I've always wanted to try face paint and even bought some last year, but never used it. If I happen to arrow a critter, I want to be able to take the face net off and not have anything on my face in the pictures.
I like a half net. I tried the camo paint and it made a mess when I started sweating. I will never use camo face paint again.
Is there a secret easy way to remove the paint? I've heard moisturizer before application helps but haven't tried it.

I have used baby oil in the past.
burnt cork (goes under face paint I think)
I cant shoot with anything against my face.
L.R.
Personally I use costume makup that can be applied with a sponge. It resists moisture and is not greasy at all.
I'm a facepaint guy...I've been using the Camo FX brand of facepaint and love the stuff. Super fast aplication as you just twist and put on like a mini deodarant. And comes off just as easy w/ a baby wipe. Awesome stuff!

Burned cork for me.
I use the net.I like to go out for lunch.Sit and eat.
I used to always wear a net when I shot a compound bow 'cause it was less messy, but now I don't like how it "interferes" with my anchor... so I use face paint now and keep a pack of baby wipes in the truck.
I like the idea of face paint but use a net.
I hate when it is cold the net freezes and I have a hard time spitting.
usually i keep the net up around my hat and then pull it down when game is approaching.
I like the face net early in the fall season cause it helps with the bugs Later I like the face paint more freedom of sight .
BUT now that I have changed my shooting anchor slighty after some instrucion, the head net MAY be out Havnt tried it YET but will
Net for me only, always. Paint is a mess, stinks, and takes away time I can use
walking to my stand in the A.M.
Burnt cork for me, comes off easier than paint
Face paint for me. I am one of those archers who can't shoot with a face covering on or with bulky gloves for that matter.
I am trying face paint for the first time this year. I just cant get comfortable with a head net on. Dont hear well with it either, not that I hear well anyway. Can anyone give some more insite on the heat and sweat factor. Gets pretty warm here till the end of oct. Im saure I dont like the idea of paint running down my face.
paint
Burnt cork is BAD news fellas!
Google it before you put it on again
Burnt cork is a homemade cosmetic created by burning cork with some accelerant, such as alcohol. The resultant ash is applied directly to the skin, or ground and mixed with some vehicle such as water. Because the pigment produced is carbon black, a known carcinogen, this is no longer considered a safe cosmetic product.
Most trad archers are to purdy to be paint'n on their faces :o ) Use a neck gator pulled up below my eyes most of the time.
I use both.
Camo around the eyes and mask to cover the rest.
No problems shooting with a net on.
I put camo net, but use a pullover leafy thing or burnt cork! Shawn
Yeah, paint... It aint make-up :bigsmyl:
Spandoflauge here
Prefer face paint in warmer climate, stalking or hunting from a blind in the spring. Love the camoFX. Pestered the local the archery shop all winter until they relented to the squeaky wheel.
My method for removal -Apply an ample quantity of vaseline and work in. Get items ready for shower allowing the petroleum jelly to do its work then scrub face with normal Kroger body wash. Follow-up with a face wash then I am good to go.
Prefer mask or netting when cool and/or bugs are a nuisance. Even a light netted mask provides insulatio against cool weather.
The face paint is ok ...but there is no substitute for breaking the silhouette of the recognizable human form....thats why snipers wear ghilly(spelling?) Suits.....best money I ever spent was on a three d leaf suit on a net base ....cool in warm climates and big enough to slip over cold weather gear....Have killed deer from the ground moving slowly from a downwind position....wild... looking at me with ears and tail twitching...guess they cudnt figure it out. Yes ...been busted a few times with the wind changing..... from a visual works well...net thin and doesnt affect draw
Face mask for me.
Spandex face mask here. Don't want to deal with the mess of paint.
Baby oil takes it right off. But a few years ago I was just about out of milk at the hunt camp so I ran into the Mom and Pop little store in the town and picked up a qt of milk. As I went to pay the owner took the money and then as I went to leave stoped me and gave me a candy bar, I said what that for and he said you are just trick or treating right ????I gave the bar back and told him, no just a bow hunter. I guess if you are using a popup blind and or maybe in tree stand you do not need to fave a face mask, but being a ground blind hunter I do use the face paint. I am going to get the baby wipes and see how well they do for getting the stuff off the fae. I now use the baby oil and that has worked very well. But after you take it off I also then wash the face with hot water and a little bakind soday to get the sweet smell from the baby oil off the face...One other tip I also carry in my back pack a sandwich plastic bag filled with baking soda and use that when I get to the stand if I sweated up on the way into the stand. It sure help with those deer and there nose's.
Mask- helps with skeeters and helps keep face warm.
I elliptical train 6-8 miles every evening. Tonite I will apply full face paint and train for an hour I'll let y'all know what to expect after a full hour long sweat. Might even get a before and after pic just for kicks.
I'm with Don, mask and netting, the skeeters will eat you up this year in NJ, I'm talking real bad, they even come out when the sun is high in the sky with no shade around.
