Got thinking about something today, and I wondered if any of you "old pros" could give me some advice.
Just before leaving on a hunting trip, I noticed the serving on the string on my old faithful Morrison Cheyenne was very slightly frayed. By the end of the trip, stump shooting and putting the arrow on and off the string had the serving nearly worn through. It had been worse shape than I thought.
I have ordered a new SBD string to try on this bow, but plan to redo the serving on this one, and keep it back as a spare.
The old string was built with 8125 "Fastflight" material, I think. The serving material I have on hand is what I used on B50 strings. Would there be any harm in using it to re-serve my string?
Figured someone here might know. THANKS!
No problem,I've used the No. 4 nylon serving on all types of strings dacron and FF type strings. It's just that it may not be the same diameter as used on your 8125 string.No. 4 is .021 diameter,I prefer to use larger diameter servings for nock fit on my FF type strings. But it will work fine as serving.
Thank you, John. I'll give it a try!
Should not be a problem. When serving a string it is best to serve it so it goes "against" the twist of the string. That way, if the string stretches at all and you have to twist it to shorten it the serving will tighten slightly rather than loosen.
Good tip! Thanks. I was wondering about that very thing, and your answer makes good sense.
I will add, if your new string is a "skinny" string with less strands then your old string you may need to run a strand or two of serving down the string and serve over it or even like I have to do is to use two servings with my 8 strand strings. As I recall the first serve is .021 and the second is .018.
