The archery world has lost a great man! I was in The Footed Shaft about a month ago and Lamont happened to be there. We had a nice visit. I'm so glad I had that opportunity for a last visit with Lamont. I know he has been fighting cancer for several months, but he seemed to be doing fairly well the day I was there.
My deepest sympathy goes out to Lamont's family.
Sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed doing business with Lamont. Prayers to the family.

Very sad news. Lamont was a great guy. My thoughts and prayers for him and his family.
I have many nice memories with Lamont.
Back in the day before the internet took over the world, his "footed shaft" classified subscription paper was IT.
This is where I and thousands of others found and sold and traded so much of our collection. Made many trades with Lamont too. He was very knowledgable as well.
Rest in Peace Lamont........Philip

Prayers and condolences to his family.
Living only an hour or so north of Lamont's place here in MN I was lucky enough to visit with him many times over the years.
Lamont was, as some have already said, one of the greats of archery. His shop, The Footed Shaft, was a wonderful place to visit with him. From all the old bows he had on display on the ceiling to all the old archery magazines and books - Lamont was a treasure trove of all the stuff and stories that continue to keep me loving our great sport all these years.
One quick story that shows a little bit of what Lamont was like:
I'd known Lamont as a customer for about 20 years - but was never a close friend, although he always made me (and eventually my son) feel that way. My wife has a number of health problems, some of them have needed care from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Lamont's shop is only about 10 minutes from where we were staying there.
Many of my wifes appointments would run 2 or more hours, any of you that have had to deal with health problems know how much waiting there is, so she suggested that I go visit Lamont.
Since we had to be at the Mayo many times that Summer I would spend a few hours at Lamonts when it worked out.
Lamont was always a gracious host, especially considering that I could not afford to buy things every time I was there.
Once Lamont found out that I was with my wife at the Mayo it did not take long for him to begin offering me books and videos to take with me (borrow) to help make this trying time easier.
One of the videos was very rare footage of Paul Schafer on a number of hunting trips with his friends in Alaska!
He never hesitated to offer his time to share his knowledge and even some of his prized archery items.
I'll never forget Lamonts kindness, vast knowledge of archery and great sense of humor - he will be missed.

Traditional archery lost a giant of a man. I've bought many bows and sold a passel of them also through Lamont's shop. I always looked forward to my trips to Rochester to "talk shop" with a true encyclopedia of trad archery. Lamont always truly seemed glad to see his bow clients and my wife and I spent many hours looking at every piece of equipment he had in his shop. He will be missed. Our condolences to his family. He was so proud of his grandkids and loved his St. Bernard friends!

It definitely sad news. Lamont was always there to help and answer questions. It will be something I will think of in years to come since it was opening weekend of the bow season here in Minnesota.
A fine man and a good friend,my wife went through breast cancer earlier this year and every time we saw LaMont he was more concerned with her welfare that his own.
He will truly be missed.
Lamont touched the lives of many people and always in a positive way, I got to spend a couple hrs with him this last wensday and I am glad I did.I have known Lamont for 20 plus years, he was a friend, a mentor and was truely one of the good guys. I only just found out about this - so so sad to learn of his passing.
When I first got into archery I was working in Northern Iowa and drove two hours after work on a whim to visit Lamont's shop. Unfortunately, he didn't have any left-handed bows in stock but he did have an old beat up orange fiberglass longbow that could be shot either lefty or righty. He didn't even charge me for it.
It wasn't much (in fact my room mates made fun of me for shooting it), but it was the bow I learned to shoot with and it meant everything to me.
A few months later I ran into him at a shoot and tried to give it back to him. He told me to keep it.
Someday I'll give it to someone else who is just starting out, but for now I am proud to own it.
Great man. I miss him.
Nice story,it's nice to hear the "little orange bow" will continue on it's journey.

Prayers for the family and friends.
He will be missed.
God bless,Mudd
That is a Lamont story all right. He was a great guy that did much to promote the sport.

Just go back on trad gang after a long absence. Just herd about Lamont and Clark both old friends.
Very sorry and saddened.

May God rest his soul. Thoughts and prayers for his family.
My condolences to Lamont's family. I always admired his integrity and will never forget a SD Bowhunter state convention years ago when Lamont made my 5 year old son a deal on a leather quiver ($5) just so he could afford to buy it. It was worth far more than that, but Lamont would not even think of taking more for it. He wanted my son to own it. Truly a great man.
I just purchased one of Lamont's 'old' bows off of the classifieds from chetterB. It is a lefty Big River Hill style bow. lt is a beautiful bow and I'm going to name it 'La Grange' for two reasons: 1. to honor Lamont, 2. My wife is from Texas and the reverend who married us was based in LaGrange and we met with him there the day before our wedding so he could see how we got along and give us his blessing. Looking forward to shooting Lamont's bow.
