This evening I walked into a stand that was off the beaten path . On the walk in a sparrowhawk flew over me, as the saying goes, I kid you not! Crawled up in a tree stand hoping to see a pig come though. I did see a pig straight down wind about 150 yards across a clearing, he huffed and took off.. It was a nice evening so I stayed until dark.
The mosquitos got a bit hungry so I got down and slipped my daypack on and grabbed my bow for the walk back to the truck. About 200 yards from my stand is an old tank with a 3' bank all the way around it. It's probably about 30 yards across and 50 yards long, it's also dry except for a little spit hole about 3 feet in diameter. I slipped up to the bank and saw several sets of eyes in dim glow of my headlamp. I put an arrow on the string and just stood there for a moment. I had the wind and the coyotes were more curious than anything else. I took several steps towards them and stopped again. Then two of them started coming towards me. This one was circling trying to get my wind I'm sure. He stopped at about 20 yards. I came to full draw and the string slipped from my fingers. I heard the arrow hit bone with a crunch. He was down ! The arrow hit a tad high and tickled his backbone, must have taken out the top of the lungs too because he was dead in a very short time..
I was using Beman 500s with a 160 STOS and a 100 grain adapter - 260 grains up front.. And you guessed it, my new Sparrowhawk longbow by Vince at Mohawk longbows !!!

Pat, Good shooting. In the light of a headlamp. Congrats and thanks.
Atta boy, Pat!
That a boy Pat....
If you keep harvesting all those critters, your going to wear that bow out.
At this rate Poor old vince is going to have to call his webmaster, and get another page added to his photo gallery....
That is a fine Coyote Pat.
Way to go Pat! Now that's what a call a Traditional Trophy! :notworthy: Gotta' love those Mohawks! :archer: I would like to shoot one of those Sparrowhawks to see how it compares to my other 3 Mohawks. :archer2:
You will not forget that experience!
great job and that is a trophy. i got one last fall
Nice job, Pat! Been gone a while and your is the first post I read. Impressive! Did the rest of the "field dogs" leave?
Wells
Well Done! Does Vince add the MOJO when he builds them, or did you instill it yourself, because that bow certainly seems to have it in spades!
NICE SHOT MAN!!
One of my passions is hunting yotes with a bow...everyone is a true trophy. Most folks have no idea how hard it is to take a coyote with a bow, especially on purpose.
Congrats.
Another congrats Pat!!! Awesome!
Thanks for sharing Pat, I hope to one day take a yote with a trad bow!
Thats too awsome . He looks pretty good size.Good shooting and putting the sneek on them.Cioyotes are a blast.
You are on a roll! Nicely done.
Eric
nice job Pat B.Gotta love the Mohawk
Great story n nice yote
The rest of 'em "skinned out" pretty quickly after this one went down.. Of course, I went right up to him thinking I was going to have to shoot again. Didn't happen though, in moments he was gone and so were his companions !
I believe Vince does glue in a little mojo in his bows !!
Lot's of fun..
geez, don't kill all the critters, pat - save some for us!!! :D
Ought to make a Fine Hat & Cape!! Good Shootin'!! :archer:
Shot from the ground? Just awsome!!!
Very nice! All coyotes are a trophy but those Texas coyotes are a breed all their own. To get a Texas dog with a bow is a real accomplishment. They are really wilily and wise critters.
Congratulations! :clapper:
SWEEEEEEETTTTT!!!
Nice shootin'!
I gotta try one of them Sparrowhawks real soon....
Shoot straight, Shinken
