Well now that I have filled my Elk tag, I am chasing Deer, Bear and Turkey. So far I have not had much luck, but I know I am blessed just to be out hunting everyday! The weather here is changing and I hope that will bring more game movement and maybe more luck my way!
Here is what my morning looked like.....

Hopefully I'll have more pic's to post as the season goes on. If I'm REAL lucky I might even be posing with an animal or two.....
Beautiful!!
Nice. Love the west
"The hunt goes on......" hopefully, long after we are all gone.
But for now, best of luck.
Can you imagine how awful it would be to live without knowing what it feels like to hunt?
Congrats again on the elk :campfire:
Good luck. Hap
Beautiful picures of some awesome country! i hope more good luck comes your way....and i suspect it will!
Well it was another wet and muddy morning. I am getting sick of he mud! The animals were out and moving though. Nothing like stalking deer while elk bugle in the back ground. Another morning with no animals to show for my efforts, but definantly some food for the soul.....

I think I would have liked a bit of rain and mud ... my first 6 days of elk hunting this year it was 90+ degrees every day. Needless to saw the elk were no where to be found.
Great pics, many thanks
Looking good.
Jason
I think you and the photography thing have hit it off...nice pics as usual!
BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY WE Have Here, Aint it??
Amen brother, great pics!
Well not much action the last couple of mornings. My wife missed a doe last night, shaved the hair right off her brisket! Was fun to watch. I changed up my plans again and went looking for Bear. I can not shoot deer in the unit I have a tag for Bear, so of course I saw deer EVERYWHERE! As always the the thrill of being in the beauty of the Creators works was awesome.

Thaks for the kind words everyone. I love this time of year. Now with the camera I get to share what a great place I live and hunt in.
Gib -I didn't get any pm?
The pic of the small bird looks 3D with the background a bit out of focus. Great pics!
you do take amazing pictures man! keep em coming.
Great pictures! More please!
Well I went looking for Bear again today, Found some sign and found some promising little berry patches, but no bears. I did get into a screaming match with a couple of bulls, but they weren't in the mood for pictures and hung up out of sight. Found a few turkeys, but they were on the wrong side of the fence, oh well, they did let me take some pic's. Weather has changed again, back to warm and summerish.

Great pictures! I hope your hunt is loooong so we get lots more of these great pictures. Have fun!!
SSSSOOOOO close to getting a doe this a.m., the deer have turned up pretty scarce in my unit. They have moved mostly onto private ground. This morning I caught a handful of does leaving some hay fields and heading into the Oak brush to bed for the day. I circled ahead of them and ended up bumping one of them, so I immediately stated to do a fawn in distress call. I got one of them to come to 20ish yards, but needed her to step clear of the brush for a shot. After a about 30 seconds of staring me to death she decided I was not to be trusted and left the country! I love those type of encounters! Best part was the Elk were screaming all around me the who morning.
The Elk have moved mostly onto private ground also..

Is it live or is it Memorex ?
Is it Jason or is it the camera? Find some water, but you know that
Rick - I have a bad habit when I Bear hunt....I end up playing with ELK! LOL! Sorry to hear your still have a crappy year. Things will turn and maybe next year will be your best!
I only put the little logo on Images that I want to try and sell.
Awesome pictures as always! :notworthy:
You're killing me Jason. I've been hunting the flat tops and Castle Peak WA for over a week and haven't seen my first elk. Have until Sunday to make something happen. Your observation that the elk have moved to private lands rings true. Found LOTS of sign 2-3 weeks old, but very little fresh sign. They seemed to have abandoned the basin we hunted. Found four wallows all with crystal clear water. Need someone to carry your camera bags?! What are you shooting for camera equipment.
Steve- yep happens every year. Co. has enough huge tracks of land that get little or NO hunting pressure, that the Elk have learned where to go to be safe. Usually right after the first weekend of ML they are movin' out. Also the acorns are comin on strong so look in the low country for them. Get a BLM map and find the little tracks that can get you in behind some of those ranchs. Good Luck!
P.S. I use a Canon Powershot SX30 Si.
Absolutely beautiful.
  very cool
That's a nice little camera. And your getting some great shots. We have that one at work (35x zoom right?). My only complaint about it is you can't touch it without accidentally hitting a button! Debating hauling my 40D today. If I can't get elk, might as well get pics!
Not much action the last couple of day's. I sat on a little water hole yesterday, but only had birds come in. There had been a herd of elk in the area, but the had moved on and it was a very quiet day.
This a.m. I thought I would check on a group of bucks that I know are spending their time right on the edge of a big piece of private ( that will not let me hunt without big $). They come right up to the fence sometimes, but never seem to cross when I am there. Today was really no different, except as I was watching the bucks a four point bull came out into the field. He was lonely and looking for company. He walked right at the herd of deer and they ran like he was demon from hell! They actually crossed the fence, and I got excited! They ran about 200 yards and crossed right back into the private and out of sight.....Dang. I was fun to watch anyway. After that I took a long walk around the piece BLM that I was on. It used to be an old homestead and has some neat 100+ year old buildings and things on it. Well I only have two more day's of vacation and hunting season. It has been so much fun, gonna be a bit bummed out when it's over.

Great pics!
The plan this morning was to find my wife an Elk. I figured with all the elk that were in the area we should have a good shot at calling one to us. Well the elk didn't follow the plan. They were GONE! Not a single elk in the whole area. So we went and glassed a couple of other area's, but only found one small herd on a piece of private.
So I fgured the best plan was to back track a see if we could catch any thing moving around. We did! At the spot I have been hunting like a dog Three big does crossed the road in front of us. I pulled into a wide spot and ran an end around play, LOL, and headed them off. The shot was 25+/- yards and I thought it was perfect.

The shot that looked pefect was a little far back. I found gut material on the blood trail, so we waited a bit. There was a lot of blood so I was sure I had hit an artery somewhere as well. We headed out with my son leading the safari, and doing a great job on a very good blood trail. After about 100 yards we jumped her! My heart sank, it has never been good when I have jumped a hit animal. She was bleeding like crazy though.....
I almost forgot! On our first inspection of this area earlier in the morning. We saw this buck with these same does. I am pretty sure he stayed on the private side of the road though. They always do!
I decided that since she was bleeding so hard we would push her. She had only gone another 50 yards and we jumped her again. We stop for a few minutes, then snuck along the very visible blood trail. I think we jumped her four more time in an hour and only 150 yards of trail. Finally she laid down where I could see her and snuck in for a finishing shot and she only went 20 more yards. I was VERY thankful! It was so great to have my son along. He loved every second of it. He is a bright kid and seemed to be going though the same emotional roller coaster I was on his own level. He was super happy we found her and a little sad that it wasn't the cleanest kill. You and me both son.
Saying our prayer and thanking the Doe for her life and promising to do a better job as a hunter next time.

Good job! Glad you found her!
Perseverance pays off in spades! And steaks!
Good job. Makes me homesick to be back in the hills of the West... amazing country!
Great recovery!!
Great stuff. Thanks.
Nice hunt and recovery.
:archer:
Thats super cool stuff.
Cool pics! Really cool you do that as a family.
Dave
Great pics and story.
Way to hang tough on the wounded doe. That has happened twice for me as well - pushing the gut shot animal. They can't take it and the bumps get closer until there they are down and you have a chance. Heartbreaking ordeal, but good in the end. Great to be with the family. Thanks for taking the time to post.
What an absolutely awesome thread!
Great pics, family along, and determination to follow up your doe!
Congrats and what a great day to be afield it looks like!!
Beautiful country and a good read. Thanks and congrats. Good recovery, she'll eat good.
Beautiful pics and a big doe. Most of the deer are on private land in Wi. also.
Congrats Jason
nice travel and hunt thanks
Well Deer, Elk and Bear are done. Now I still have a few days to chase turkey, but I am back to work so I will have to wait until the weekend.
