Title: Hunting Cloak
Post by: huntin_sparty on September 13, 2011, 10:14:00 PM
My 7th grade home econ teacher would be proud.  The folks on here always coming up with clever things frequently inspire me.  I made a quiver last year.  This year some eastern tribe pucker toe mocasins from deer hide I had.

But then got really inspired and wanted to try a hunting cloak.  (Fred and Theresa you are very safe!)  Still some work to be done but almost there before October.

Weve got a lot of red oaks here so for reinforcement for my fasterner area.  Going to use antler toggles I think.

I am going to have a slit in the back left side (I am right handed) for the bow bottom to slip through without lifting up the back.  Its going to be a stick tight briar magnet but real happy with the pattern and shape in breaking up human outline.  Also the hood is great for shadowing my face. Season better start before I start making dresses for my daughter!!   :scared:
Thanks
Andrew

Sweet job Andrew.  Why didn't you wear the shoes to Land O Lakes last weekend?

I really like the Cloak you made.

Thanks Mike, I didnt wear em cause I didnt want to slip and break something to interfere with shooting.  The natives must be more sure footed than me.  Thanks for having me out to shoot great club and shoot!

I drew the first week to hunt out there.  Can't wait for the opportunity.  To me, it was like hitting the lotto when they pulled my name out first.

Great work!  I've been flirting with that idea for some time now.  For camouflaging a man's shape without interfering with the bow, a cloak really makes sense.

Can we see some action shots?

Thanks, yep when I finish, I want to rig something (elastic loop maybe) that will allow me to shoot with the cloak still providing break up versus just flipping it back and sticking out my arm.

Heh, heh, I did that too back in '92. I used a tiger stripe cotton outer shell with a wool interior. Very warm and the camo works well.  And I thought I was the only one weird enough to do it! Glad to see I'm in good company. If I think about it, I try to photograph it tomorrow night.

Did you like the tiger stripe camo or was it for use tailgating at Mizzu Tiger games?

My wife jokes with me if I am going to start being a Lord of the Rings reinactor on the weekends!

Look forward to it

Heh, heh, that WOULD be a good alternative use for it!  I'll get pictures tomorrow night. Tonight is anniversary night, so I think I need to be on my best behavior.
