I would post a pic but all of my pictures from back then were destroyed in a home fire 14 years ago.
My first big game was a Doe taken with my 45# Bear Super Grizly in 1983.
The thing I like is that you have the simplest bows to the super fancy, all dropping game just the same. Mountain hunts to backyards.
Excellent.
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/2crazyboys_photos/IMG_0717.jpg) First hour of hunting trad. She looked at me several times but was never spooked, kept eating beech nuts. Meant to be or just another benefit of hunting big woods deer. Could have been both. (http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/2crazyboys_photos/IMG_0709-1.jpg)
Sorry no trad gear in the pic. I had already changed clothes and just arrived home from my hunting area. My wife had to get a pic right away. I'm glad she did. Shot this little 8 point with a 59# Centaur.

:campfire:
First trad kill from 2003 I believe. I was sitting behind a big downed whiteoak tree log next to a very small food plot Lowebow had put in on his farm. Never forget that day as I watched those big fletchings spinning toward the vitals of my first ever shot at big game animal. Then to watch them disappear as they zipped through her. It all seemed like it was in slow motion. The image is still burned in my mind and the fire was lit.

I will remember it for a long time like it was yesterday. My hunting buddy's farm land, and strutting birds all around. They saw me move my bow into position and got antsy....started to move away but this guy got one last strut in on his way out. I can still see that arrow headed for the spot my eye was looking at....what a morning it was!

Some of you guys have some VERY impressive first trad kills! Congrats to all of you. here is mine; a corsican ram shot in Juno, Tx.

Last December (2010). Hoyt Dorado, 45#. Happened at dusk, she appeared almost out of nowhere. I took the shot from the creekbed as she put her head down behind a tree to nibble some berries. 15yds, you're looking at the exit hole. Couldn't find her until the next morning, even though she was only about 50yds away.

Last season was my 1st Trad year, didn't get a pic of the 1st deer i shot, which was a nice doe, cuz i was hunting by myself that night, but got these other two kills for last fall. My first with trad gear. Without a doubt one of my happiest moments and memorable hunts.

03 or 04 i think. Sky skyhawk 55# 2216 with bear broadhead went maybe 20yds. Not the biggest buck i have killed but my favorite.

A deer like that could turn "careers" around.
Trap
This was my first deer with a bow. If you can see the entry hole this one was a fun tracking job (all gut) . 58@29 zipper sxt longbow with woodsman broadheads. Shot her in October 1 of 2011

Good stuff, guys. Keep em coming.
Didn't have the thought to snap a pic, but mine was the mighty racoon. I had missed a couple of deer prior to the coon, but somehow managed to bowl that masked bandit over on a dead run. Go figure.

First trad whitetail. Many moons ago.Used first bow I ever built. Pretty crude but it worked fine!!
Unfortunately there is nothing old and grainy about these pics. First trad kill was a catfish:
Still surprised and blessed that this was my first trad deer - also my best deer with any weapon:
This 100# sow was not my 1st trad kill, but an interesting one, 1984 w/my 1st Silvertip TD. Had to shoot this 27 year old to get a P&Y'er the next evening. (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x132/recurvehunter_2007/5.jpg) This is the P&Y Bear I got the 2nd day (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x132/recurvehunter_2007/P1010483.jpg)
Do not have a pic, but it was the biggest deer I have ever killed, 24.5" inside spread very tall and heavy chocolate horned 8 point killed in Texas in 1967 with a 55# Ben Pearson Cougar recurve, bear cedar arrow and razor head. He was bedded in sage brush with a doe, doe was standing and I was at 25 yards, at half draw, I whistled and he stood up, came to full draw and nailed him, he went maybe 30 yards and was down. Lost the pictures and the rack in a fire in 1970. Been trying to kill another like him ever since, LOL.
My first archery harvest ever. 6 yards on the ground. Holzrichter Custom Lonbow, 47# at 27", Beman MFX 500, 75 grain brass insert, 150 grain Woodsman Original. October 13, 2012.

Great thread. I love it. God bless.

First trad kill pic, shot in the heart on last day while she was trotting past. Pic taken by G Fred with my camera, great memories on that adventure. Bigriver flatbow, magnus heads & home made cedars.
Have to agree that this is a great thread. Wish I could find a picture of my first deer, a doe in 1969. Was shooting a Pen Pearson recurve pulling 40#, home made p.o. cedars and MA-3. Shot her hunting from the ground at ten yards, I was 12 years old. Ocqueoc river in northern Michigan.
My first trad kill was either a carp or a ground hog. My first deer was the one in my avatar. I would post a bigger pic if pb would cooperate. I shot him with a Fox longbow 47@26" and home made carbon arrow with a Wensel Woodsman bh. Kentucky late Sept. 2004.
Here's my first deer, must have been around 1989-'90. Black Widow 67@27" with a xx75 and either a 125gr. Thunderhead or Snuffer. My buddy had just started a taxidermy shop so he mounted it for me for free.
Not too long ago - 2005. My first deer with trad bow - Great Plains recurve that my Dad baught me for a college graduation present. It wasn't the best of shots and I recovered her the following morning.
My first traditional hunt. Lasted about 45 minutes. The start of something special.
62# MA II, 2018 and a Razorcap.
Followed up in the fall by my first trad buck kill.
60# Kimsha Mattawoman II, GT shaft, WW head.
(Still need to photoshop the darn tongue)
My only bow kill of any kind (so far) was a carp with a flu-flu and field point just a couple feet from where I was fishing off the bank, summer of 2011(?). I'll definitely add to this thread when I finally connect with a mammalian target.
1972, got it with my Shakespeare Wonderbow, 40# @28, Bear broadhead. Two weeks later I was in the Army.
First trad deer. Selfbow, and stone point.
1991 in the Northern Lower Peninsula of MI. Second sit with a longbow. My dad hunted with me on that trip, and he's still never taken a shot in all these years. Nevertheless he still hunts elk with me every year, and shoots the longbow all summer. Just shows You don't have to kill to enjoy traditional archery.
Overspined, what bow is that, looks pretty cool. Bob
44# 62" Great Northern Bushbow. All Osage. Uncle bought it for me to get me away from wheels.
This crappy cell phone pic makes the photo look older than it is... 2008 - spine-shot doe from a steep 10 yards with an old hand-me-down 48" Ben Pearson recurve 55@28.
Here is the first recurve kill I've made in 34 years. It was my first year without compounds in 2010.
This was a doe I shot at 21 yards. She dropped in sight, 52 yards from my tree stand. The bow is a Strickland Stick with a 46# draw @26". The arrow was a 416 grain Beman MFX Classic.
Interestingly, neither the arrow or the bow are currently available.

My first big game kill was a mule deer doe next to the Gunnison river near Paonia CO, but that was before cameras were invented, so no pics of that.
Here is the first ram I shot. Last November on the Big Island.
