when you guys order a new string what serving diameter do you guys use with gold tip arrows. I got a couple strings and the nocks are really tight on the serving. i either was going to order a new string or use the nock adapters from 3 rivers. any string makers that can let me know what I need or can make me a couple strings just let me know. I shoot a 60" bob lee bow, and I have two new bob lees on the way. I would like to get a couple strings for my bows thanks brad
Brad, it's hard to answer your question because there are several variables involved. The combined diameter of the string and serving can vary due to 1) string material diameter, 2) serving material diameter, and 3) the number of strands used to make the string. A 14-strand string made of B-50 will be thicker than a 14-strand string of D97.
I can make you some B-50 or B-55 strings but I cannot guarantee that you wouldn't have the same problem because I don't know what kind of nocks are on your arrows.
It's going to vary depending on the string material and strand count. I just keep several different types of nocks on hand to check with vs. trying to remember what fits (my memory isn't that good!).

right now I use the gold tip nocks but they are the ones that are really tight, would it be easier to use the nock adapters? i never used them just wondering if they would solve my problem
If the adapters will fit the GT shafts, then you can use larger throat nocks (like Bohnning Classic or Mercury)...but, depending on how large the serving is, it may still be too tight.

Perhaps you could just give the finished string +serving diameter that you're looking for. With the various diameters of serving available I'm sure a string maker could make what you want.
You need to discuss this with the string maker directly. There are several types of string and serving that can be used.
The best thing you can do is know what you are using now; nocks, serving material, string material and string count. Let the string maker know what they are so that he or she will be able guestimate the combination creating the right size string and serving.
I just bought a continuous loop string that is 16 strands and had to use a thinner serving so the nock would fit on the string. I was using a 12 strand flemish twist and the serving was pretty thick.

First, learn how to make your own strings. It really isn't hard. I learned from a DVD called "Doin' the Twist", but I'm sure there are online resources. Buy some string material (I bought some D97 on close-out years ago and haven't come close to using it all yet), serving material, make a flemish string jig out of a scrap board and you're ready to go.
Barring that, I'd get a spool of thin serving material, carefully cut off the existing serving and just re-do it. Mine always come out a bit small, so I just put a couple of wraps of flat dental floss to build it up and it's perfect.
